Michelin or Continental
It is almost time to change tires and I am wondering if I should stick with the OEM Continental or change to Michelin Pilot Super Sport.
I am not dissatisfied at all, the Continental tires are relatively quiet with decent grip, they don't seem to have terribly long lifespan. I would like to get some feedback from folks who changed the tires on an S 63 AMG. Thanks |
Michelin by a mile. There is no comparison.

agree...Michelin

ss Michelin by about 10000 miles

Three questions:
What type of climate do you live in? Is your car a daily driver? What are your driving habits (aggressive or no)? The three guys that like the PSS live in warm climates. the traction on any ultra high performance summer tires drops significantly below about 40 degrees F and gets seriously slick below freezing. |
Warm weather driving.
We live in Florida, so I am assuming based on your comments that in that case you would also recommend Michelin?

What pressures are you guys running on your tires? Have the OEM conti's and planning to go to New Pilot Super Sport 4S. Do you run the same recommended pressures of 49/51 or less? Seems the car rides like its over inflated at those pressures with the Conti's. The S550 had almost similar size with the 20" AMG upgrade rims with similar profile and those ran 36/39 with a more compliant ride. Thoughts?

I did a post on this, and posted some photos. Named Put some new Michelins on. I have always ran what the sticker says on the gas door. I check the pressure once a week, due to the temperature fluctuations we get here. Heck it could be 70 one day and 40 the next. We have taken one road trip with the Michelins. We love them. They are wearing great so far. Vehicle was aligned at our local Mercedes dealer. We will see how long these last. But so far we love them.

Ran the PSS on my CLS63. I didn't notice any better grip, and the thread life sucked. I'm on Pirelli snows now, the OEM Conti's are shot, not sure what I'll do come spring time.

Thanks for the info guys. Have the PSS on the SLS and it feels great. Will prob go with those. PS4 on TireRack with availability 3/1/17. Also out is the new Conti Extreme Sport. Available for the S550 with sport pack but not listed as of yet on TireRack in our fitment. The manufacturer does indicate that they will carry our fitment. Just as another option for anyone looking into newer Contis.
Will run pressures of the door frame on each tire and see which I like best. Thanks |
