!!!HEADS UP!!! Those considering a RENNTech tune..

As of right now this is only for RENNtech. Im not sure if others are affected such as weistec or AMS or any other. We dont really deal with them at the shop.

Mercedes is beginning to put a status 8 on your VIN, meaning your warranty may and can be voided upon review.

I dont know how they know the car is tune, but we have had at least 4 cars (not just E63, but S600s and S63's) that turn up a status 8 on the VMI after the tune. So proceed with caution.

Where you been---MB has notified their dealers back in the early 2000's to watch out for the tunes, therefore what car under warrantee would be dumb enough to tune his car knowing that in addition to warrantee issues all good will is out the window. Now out of warrantee is another issue, but goodwill aint!!


PS any body with a copy of DAS Xentry or XDOS can quickly determine the car was tuned---that's a no brainer!!

Are you a MB dealer that's listed on the renntech site? Maybe MB corporate is only doing it to cars tuned at non MB dealerships?

I've had 14 cars (since 2001 CLK55) tuned by Renntech and never had any problems.
I just made sure to service them always at the dealer who also performed the tune.
One exception was 2006 SL65 that received Status 8 after serious handling problems caused by frozen Kleemann differential (we had no idea it was the culprit and MBUSA technician was called in, unfortunately a newly hired dealer service advisor blabbed to him about the tune).
