Would i be a complete fool to buy an uncertified used 2015/16 S63

Supported my wife through 4 years of med school, 4 years of residency and 3 years of fellowship in addition minding a toddler during board study hours and when she is on call. She just landed her first gig out of fellowship and it is quite lucrative. So now she wants to reward me for being a good hubby.

Though we can now afford a brand spanking new S63 i can't bring myself to 1. buy a new car EVER 2. buy a new car thats 160k

There seem to be some good used options for an S63. I know the maintenance on these suckers are a b!tch, but im moreso concerned about unforseen repairs. Would it make more sense to mod a s550 or stick with what i really want in the s63

Cost of ownership isn't much different between a 550 or 63 in reality.

If you get lucky and nothing major breaks once it's out of warranty, they are actually really a great deal.

If you start having failures and have to come out of pocket a large amount then it might be depressing, but in general the 222 has been pretty reliable.

No, I did and am glad I did, just make sure there is a full service history (preferably from a dealer). If you are worried about out of warranty items, sell before the warranty expires or buy an extended one. I started looking at the S550 and decided on the S63 since that is what I really wanted also.

Did you go through an MB dealer, a private seller or non MB dealership

Based on my fears im guessing i should buy a car under 50,000 miles?

Looked at all three options, ended up buying from a private party. Private party vehicle was the best I found after a long search (thanks to a very caring owner).

Yes, stay under 50k miles to stay within the warranty (4 years/50k miles). Mine had 38k miles and the warranty expires in November of 2018.

Good Luck!

I don't want to hijack the OPs thread, but I came here to post a very similar topic... I can afford a 2014 S63 AMG, but could I afford to keep it?

AFTER taxes, 401k, medical plan, rent, food, entertainment, I average about 3500 a month saved. (more than double that amount if I deploy, I am a contractor to maintain UAV's) I have access to covered parking but no personal garage.

I assume the vast majority of S63 owners, used or new, make much more then I do. Would I be a fool to buy a used one? I love nice cars, and I honestly don't "waste" money on anything else. This would be my only vehicle, my daily driver. This would not be the toy to take out on weekends to wow people, this would be my car going every where.

I currently own a Jaguar XJR (X350 model, 2004) and it has not been bad to maintain, but I was told Merc's are much, much worse to maintain, like $4000 for front brake rotors/pads vs $550 for my Jag. I don't want to be bankrupted by a car and feel like an idiot. The logical part of my brain is screaming "don't do it" The fun, I like nice things part of my brain is begging for it... This would be my car for at least the next 4-5 years, if not more. What would you say for my situation? Worst case scenario, if I get a warranty, what can break that would be awful for me?

Get an Aventador instead. Then buy a regular family car for daily driving. What's her specialty?

In any case, as long as you have a MB mechanic to look at it and get the records, you should be perfectly fine. The more you make, the more you spend.

You could buy a 2012 or 13 and save a TON of money and maybe try to buy an extended warranty (and have A LOT of extra money for repairs). Or buy the 15/16 and still try to buy an extended Fidelity warranty.

Personally, I'm not sure I'd own this car without a warranty. One big repair that ends up being covered could make it worthwhile to get the warranty.

These cars are KILLER! Definitely get the S63 over the 550. Everyone has a 550, the S63 is different and SO FREAKIN FAST and throaty sounding. I love my car so much.
