$7K for pads and rotors!?!?

I have a ‘15 with 21K miles on the odo. I brought it in for rear pads, and just got a text from the SA telling me the rear brakes will be $3300+ tax and the fronts are $3,200+ tax. WTF?

anyone been down this road? Advice needed....

Do you have carbon ceramic brakes?

nope.

Sounds a tad high but yes, the regular rotors on an S63 are over $1k each at full price, plus pads, sensors, hardware, labor, I can see $6-7k as the quote. They could also discount that somewhat from full markup. Also not unusual to need brakes at low mileage on those cars, very heavy, powerful car, places a lot of load on the tires and brakes even in street driving.

S63AMG888 08-15-2018 09:42 PM

21k and rotors needs replacement too? Brake pads, maybe yes at 21k, but not pads and rotors at all 4 corners unless your tracking the car. Contact MBusa and open a case and put them in contact with your dealer, the MBusa guy that works your area will provide accessment as to why your rotors ( all 4 ) and pads needs replacement because that doesn’t seem right.

I had all 4 brake pads on a 2017 S63 sedan with less than 10k miles on them needing new pads ( the rear pads was down to the pads sensors and MBusa made a courtesy replacement for all 4 pads free of charge. Not say they’ll do the same, but maybe they can provide some assistance because it’s a 2015 model year.

Best of luck.

Not unusual to recommend rotors with it, they may measure ok right now but will be well below spec before the new pads wear back down, plus the lip on the old rotor will cut into the pad wear sensor MUCH quicker on a worn rotor that's re-used.
Brake warranty is 12 months/12k miles, 24/24 on rotors. So on a 2015, you're on your own, they are a wear part.

S63AMG888 08-18-2018 06:23 PM

I understand that both pads and rotors are wear items, but needing a full brake replacement at 21k is way to excess in my opinion thus I suggested going to MBusa for help. Imagine owners all need to do a full brake job ( pads, rotors, sensors, brake fluid ) every 21k miles. Mercedes corporate will be hearing allot of complaints and lost of sales.

Not really, most people with these cars accept the level of maintenance and cost associated with them. Yes there are people who complain, and often they get free rotors or whatever the first time, but it's part of the cost to play the game in this segment, big powerful cars with big aggressive brakes, they don't last as long as we would like and they aren't cheap.

We have the CCB package. I talked to my dealer, including the techs. They said they have never replaced pads or rotors on a CCB car. Unless you track it. They do plenty of brakes on non CCB cars. I felt this was quite interesting. They also do not get many Benz's in with the CCB brakes. However even the first vehicles Mercedes has offered CCB brakes on, those vehicles still have never had to replace any brakes on those vehicles. They said some have high mileage. However they did not state an exact number.

Yes, the CCB brakes almost never wear in street conditions. In my almost 3 years at the dealership I've never seen anyone replace pads or rotors on a CCB car.

Hey Berry. Hope all is well. Yeah, I have to agree with ItalianJoe on this, your CCB brakes not only looks awesome, the best part is you almost never have to replace the rotors ( not sure about the pads, but for sure it’ll out last at lease twice as long as the steel pads ). That’s why it’s a $10k option buddy.

The previous owner of my car paid about $6k at 30k miles to get this done, so your quote is not out of line. If you plan on keeping the car, you might want to consider the CCB's (2x the price, but you should be done for a long time unless you track). I will probably upgrade to the CCB's the next time mine needs a full brake job.

Flowmacks 09-03-2018 07:06 PM

I did the rears, the front pads have 6MM left. I put like 5KM/year on the car, so they should last a while. That really sucked.

Strigoi 09-03-2018 07:48 PM

FCP Euro. They have a lifetime warranty on brakes. You would have to find a shop that lets you bring in your own parts though.

Anyone has the knowledge can help to verify if calipers & rotors for S63/65 (W222) are the same as GT S and C63S.

We offer two piece rotors for W221 (07-13) Per our P/N: 2239/2237, although we believe from 2014+ (W222) the caliper and rotor could well be the same as C63S, SL63/65, and GT S (Our P/N: 2237/2357) which has 6 pot red front caliper and single floating rear caliper up to 2018 but not 100% certain. We know both W221 and W222 have the same size of rotors; 390x36mm front and 360x26 rear, but are different in offset due to different calipers.

They offer 20% off also. Might want to get the parts and have an indi shop do the labor. It’s really not a hard job to do.

I’m sure this topic has been discussed here somewhere, but I can’t find it. For those of you with CCB, for everyday, city driving, how do they compare to standard brakes? Any issues? Squeaking? Working when cold? I guess what I’m asking, other than the initial cost, is there ANY downside to them? Thanks.

weidake 11-09-2018 06:04 PM

is it confirmed that W222 S63 uses the same rotors as C63S, SL63/65, and GT S?

If you are not tracking the car they will last forever -

I have several friends who have them and all have

nothing negative to say -

No dust - no squeal -

The C217 is a big car that will warm the brakes up quickly -
