Buying first AMG car : 2014 S63 amg Buying Advice

Hi, I’m trying to replace my totaled 2014 E350 4matic with either an S550 or S 63. I work from home so maybe used it on 100miles church round trip every weekend. What do you think about this car. 1 accident.

i found this car with almost 57k miles.

https://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistor...&partner=CDM_O

true frame report:

https://admin.trueframereport.com/report.php

Cadillac dealer want 59,993$ ($60k) with either a 1500$ discount or 3 years gold aftermarket warranty to choose from. They are in Tampa, Florida and gonna charge me additional 1150$ as dealers fees. They are claiming it is important to them. I believe they got the car from a trade in
Deal.
This is my first Amg car but I need your advice in general on the Amg cars and also on the reliability of these 2014 s63 with that high mileage. What do you think about the price as well.

Please be open and i will appreciate every tip and advice from all you guys.

Lateef

Would be good if you included a link to the car or posted the car's options list so we could give you some better advice.
My initial thoughts based on the info that you've shared
  • I've owned 4 AMG cars and have never had any issues or major trouble of any kind so from a fit and finish perspective, you cant go wrong
  • This car has higher mileage than I like or that I would ever buy but that's just my preference. Having said that, the asking price also reflects the mileage so it's a give and take.
  • Take the VIN to a trusted MB dealer close to you and talk a service adviser into pulling the original build sheet as well as all of the service records and review it with them carefully and ask for their feedback on what they see.
  • 2014 was the first year of this variant W222. I am never a fan of buying the first year of any new model as there are inevitable bugs to be worked out but I will leave that to the rest of the crew here who own '14's.
  • We are in WA and we don't have any fees like the one that you mention above... like with most things, I am sure it's negotiable.
Hope that helps - I am sure we can give you additional feedback when you provide more info on the car. Good luck.

IMO, look for a 2015 and up with a clear title (no accidents). My 2015 has almost 45k miles and no issues, I am the second owner. Good luck with your search, they are great cars. Be aware of the higher maintenance costs of the AMG....

This will be a judgement call, but I personally would not purchase a car with a documented accident. The selling price seems to reflect the carfax report, it could be a minor accident or it can open up a can of worms. I would stay away.

I wanna say thank you and Good point made so far. Wow. This is getting interesting. My initial plan was to buy a 2015 Amg and upward but the costs of these models are very expensive now. I don’t wanna go beyond 63/65k plus taxes and all the 2015 model are pretty much damn expensive!

As advice earlier today, I went to the dealership this evening and they pulled the service record. I spoke with the sales rep so maybe I can go back tomorrow and talk to my service rep. Do you guys think the information pulled will be any different?

The sale rep also told me to get an independent inspection done by closet Mercedes Benz dealership in Tampa, FL.

looking forward to your continuous response and advice.

If this car is looking at is serviced at different Mercedes dealer, so even though MBusa system should show up on all services ( I have encountered this before ). Also understand some owners don’t go through a Mercedes shop for services such as oil changes or A and B service because it’s cheaper to have it done at an Indy shop. As for the carfax accident report, it could also been fixed at an outside collision shop so it will not be in the Mercedes system so you’ll never know the extend of the accident and what was fix/replaced.

Good point on the indy shop question. I am also doing the same on the wify GLK 350. The Tampa dealer is willing to have the car check at the dealership as long as I am paying. He also wants to wait to do final negotiation until after the inspection. We will continue the conversation next week.

I also took you guys advice and started searching for another car 2015 S63 model. I found the following car:

https://www.worldclassmotorsindy.com...N_23308089.veh

See attachment for car options. Current listing price is around 68k. 10k more than the 2014. What do you guys think about the car worth.

Thanks,

Lateef

Thank you for all the advice. After carefully reviewing my options and taking your advice carefully when buying an AMG car, I finally made a decision to not buy both 2014 and 2015 S63 AMG that I posted online here.

I decided to pull the trigger on fully loaded 2015 S550 4Matic on instead for now : https://gerardoscars.com/2015-Merced...1/Details.aspx

I guess the original owner really max out all the available options available. I don't like black interior but the 3D High Burmester and the fact that we don't have to have a fake Android in rear sit anymore was worth it. My Daughter can really enjoy the ride too.

2011 SL550
I took my 2011 SL550 across the street to my neighbor (26K sq ft garage) who only works on SL's from the originals to present. Pebble Beach MB judge, as well as flying all over the world to judge, restores cars to look like they just rolled off the assembly line that day. I've set the scene. He raised it up on the lift and inspected, connected star diagnostics and went through the car for a couple of hours, drove the car, looked at the repair history and stated that this is one of the best years of the modern SL to buy and drive as the engine/trans combo is a MB staple and the hydraulic system was updated. That having been said, problems will happen on these over-engineered cars. Most issues you can repair yourself with the star system. I bought mine last January after a great deal of searching (almost three years) and I have put on around 12K miles with no issues. I did have the dealer that I bought it from swap out the ABC fluid and filter and rodeo it prior to having it shipped to me. Sounds like you just need to sync the windows.

Im assuming you’re from the Boston area? Be careful. I was there at that shop looking for my S class. And they had a white ‘15 S550. Everything looked good on the inside. But after further inspections. I found out the rear bumper was mismatched in color. I asked and they just said “I don’t know” ? Like how do you not know? Good luck!
