2014 S63 AMG Purchase (Need some guidance)
Hi forums,
MB guy for life and currently just test drove using the Mercedes Benz Collection program in the Philadelphia area. Cars I drove: 2019 - E400 2018 - GLS 550 2018 - AMG C43 2018 - G550 (G-wagon) 2018 - AMG GLE 63S 2018 - S560 2019 - AMG E63S I ultimately want to be in a S- Class (560 preferred) however looking at prices of the 2014 S63 I think I want to end up here. Few quick questions and go easy on me if they are somewhere on the forums, I read them and got some great info. I have a few more questions: 1. What would be your major concern buying a 2014 S63 at 55000 miles? 2. What gotchas did you learn after purchasing your S63 AMG (years 14-17)? 3. What, if anything, fails first and could cost some money to repair? 4. What is a fair price low and high point for a 2014 S63 AMG? The other thing is I am 145 miles or so from one I found that looks great. Thanks MBWorld forums for your input. |
I suggest you read up on this. FYI, the 2014 S63 has the same engine, transmission and things to watch out for as the W212 E63s. https://mbworld.org/forums/w212-amg/...63-4matic.html Be sure the inner tires are not worn out as well as the brake pads. A must, get the extended warranty for that car and be sure it’s a CPO car. No carfax accident on the report. Good luck. |
The link above is a GREAT tool for sure and very well written. I'm going to sound like a broken record here, but I don't care how handy you are, how much homework you do, how pristine the car is that you're looking at, how you love to work on cars, etc.......buy a 63 that is a MB CPO'd car that has a warranty. I can't express this enough. I had mine 4 days and the headlight lens got a massive amt of moisture in it- that was 4500 alone. Its been in for a small coolant leak as well, a TCU upgrade, the horn went out, etc. All of it was covered under my MB warranty. This is my 3rd AMG in the past 7 yrs and I can't even begin to tell you the amount of $$$ my dealer has invoiced AMG for. I'd never, ever, own one of these a day out of warranty.
That being said, I love my car. Its the nicest car I've ever owned and have zero regrets purchasing it- even fully ware of the depreciation I'm going to eat in 2 yrs when I sell it (just before the warranty expires). I spend a lot of time in my car, I'm 6'7" and a car enthusiast so the cost to me is completely justifiable :D . |
2014 is the first year they came out. As a rule of thumb, its better to avoid first year cars since they haven't been debugged yet. Even with a CPO warranty, I would look at 2015s and newer.

OMG, if you like the S63 you will NOT be disappointed by buying one, as long as you have a dealer or indie check it out first! JUST DO IT. You will be SO HAPPY. I'm a diehard BMW guy but on my 3rd S63. I plan to keep this forever. I love having the large back seat when friends come in the car. The adore this car as do I. The only other car I would have gotten is the 2019 E63S but the rear back seat is pretty small.

You’ve mentioned that your headlights had moisture inside the headlight lens, am I correct? Would you migh PM with your service invoice that the dealer replaced it under warranty because of the moisture inside the lens, please. My dealer said it’s normal which I find it really hard to believe because it obstructs the headlight output when the headlight are on. I would really appreciate it. Thanks again. |

I just bought a 2014 s63 AMG and all I can say is great car ,I’m at 38 k miles and it’s a unbelievable ride, don’t get the s550 ,the growl on this beast is one of 3 great features , the looks and interior will impress yea , the tech on the car is also great. I did get mine certified and a 2 yr additional for 3500 so like having a new car if something breaks , I totally agree get a certified one. I’m in Philadelphia area also. Good luck with hunt |
I own a 2014 S63 and love it - has the upgraded 3D audio system and a bunch of extras. It was CPO'd and when that warranty ran out last month I bought an extended (2 year) for a great price from Cassandra Castro in Milwaukee. Even if you don't need the warranty during the 2 years the peace of mind is worth it alone - leaves you free to enjoy the car. Wouldn't drive an S63 without a warranty and also definitely check the brakes before you buy - they are an arm and a leg to replace rotors and pads (think $7k+).

Cassandra Castro at Milwaukee MB beat prices from three other dealerships. I bought two ELW packages, one for SL550 and another for GL550, from Cassandra. She took the time to answer all my questions and was upfront about the policies. Tell her Joseph from California sent you! Really a great experience.

Hey all, thanks for the info. The car I found sold in about 1.5 days. Onto the next S63, and looking at the 2015 models.
Anyone have any dealerships to check. I always will buy a CPO and sounds like a extended warranty is definitely something to get. |

Rotors are very expensive on the AMG vs non AMG. I got quoted $4k just for replacing the rears at the dealer (at 35k miles). Doing them myself will cost $1.5k for the rear and close to $2k for front (appears to be the going price on ebay for oem rotors). S560/S550 are about 1/3rd of the cost. Great car. I haven’t had any other issues come up in the two years I’ve owned my 2016 s63 sedan. Oh, and I think 2014/2015 have that hideous clown steering wheel.
