So you did the intake gaskets? The pvc valve on the back can leak, the rubber inside can tear. Some have experienced a crack on the manifold, try locate it and seal it.

Never once in my life have I heard someone have to tear down an engine because the oil wasn't good enough.

Keep it clean and change it often is your best bet.
