Brake Light Switch is defective by design

Replacing it every 5-6 years does not hurt. It tends to go bad every few years.

You need to know exactly what codes you are getting on the brake system computer to understand what could be going...

Check the error code when the lights set..

That sounds like initial sign that the motor brushes are at EOL. After a few months - the lights will set steady.

Replacing brake light switch will certainly not hurt.

The ABS motor is at EOL...if it hasn't been replaced all these years...

I just resolved that issue on my 2000 ML320..the brushes had completely worn out. A rebuilt ABS module (cost $450)...took care of the problem.
I had the code C1401 registered in my ABS computer.

The steering rack has to come out..has to be fully rebuilt and put back in, or you can get a rebuilt rack from one of the rebuild vendors and send them your old rack back for a core credit.

You did not lose anything by replacing the CPS. At $40, that is inexpensive peace of mind knowing you are good for another 60,000 miles on it.

Don't forget to test the fuel pump relay & fuse...

If CPS is the problem, engine normally restarts when cold. Your problem seems to be fuel supply...you can have the pressure on the fuel rail tested to confirm.

Sounds like you have a fuel supply problem. Erratic fuel supply could be caused by one of three things.

1. Choked fuel filter
2. Bad fuel pump
3. Sticking fuel pump relay

It helps to get the fuel filter inspected/replaced every 5 years of so as per factory scheduled maintenance.

Conventional oil should be replaced every 5000-6000 miles. ML motor will ruin with use of non-synthetic, though.

Starter relay is in the main fuse box in the engine bay...

Along with all the other fuses/relay. There is also a fuel pump relay that you could try swapping out, although your fuel related starting symptom do not indicate that the relay could be The problem..

The V6 should pull just fine...don't over do it on hill climbs though...I get up to Lake Tahoe occassionally with my ML320 pulling my 3400 lbs boat..

There are instructions on the internet on how to replace the dash bulbs..just look around...I replaced mine as a DIY and saved a ton of money...

I thought, MB roadside would do it at no cost....

They just did mine...it requires removal of the hood struts for easier access to the battery compartment. I would suggest, let MB roadside take care of it..

You may have a fuse panel that is on its way out...

Check to see if the e-box fan is working...if it has been dead for a while, your fuse panel could be over heating off and on...especially, in peak summer days on long drives, the fuse panel will...

Don't try a re-paint...not only will its value drop, you won't get that paint quality again...MB uses special paint processes that cannot be replicated at any other aftermarket shops...

Tailgate lock actuator has gone bad on my 2000 ML too..

In my case, the lights etc. all work fine through the lock/unlock sequence - but my rear hatch will not power lock.

I too am guessing the hatch lock actuator is bad...this is the 3rd lock actuator...

P0173 & P0170 are general fuel adaptation codes...

99% of the times it is the MAF that causes these codes, but if its not the MAF, it could be also the oxygen sensors or spark plugs. They all play a role in fuel adaptation...
