It's just too close to the CLS. There is no need for it except to "flood the shelves" like Kelloggs used to do with cereal.

You could argue that there's no need for a lot of existing models, especially in the AMG division. It'll still sell either way (don't forget this is on paper, the fastest and most powerful-from stock-AMG model currently available until the Project One and the GT Black Series come out. Personally I think it's unique enough to be clearly distinguishable from the awful looking new CLS. Not saying it looks perfect (the rear is still a hit and miss and the deployable spoiler just looks like a shoddy effort, probably the worst looking deployable spoiler I've seen on a car) but overall I think it looks pretty good.

That being said I do agree with you that Mercedes/AMG is "flooding the shelves" but they're not the only ones.
