AMG GT63 S vs non S

Other than a more aggressive factory ECU tune, what other options are you getting on that S version that you can't just add on to non S version?? I see virtually every option available to add on the non S version including:
  • Dynamic engine and transmission mounts
  • RACE and Drift modes
  • Yellow brake calipers
  • AMG DRIVE UNIT
  • AMG full-DINAMICA Performance steering wheel
  • AMG Performance Exhaust System

you also don’t get sport plus and race modes in the non S model.

You can add that option with the AMG Dynamic Plus package

I have just ordered a GT-4 63... I looked at all the options available to the 63 & 63S and find only a couple of additional items for the 63S which include the mono-block wheel option.. I spec'd out an identical 63 & 63S and there was a $19K difference... and later, I suspect that if I elect to get a 'tune', it will not cost 19K.... I don't intend to track the car so I'll be fine with 577hp...

That's what I'm trying to figure out. Could they really be charging 17k-19k for just a tune??

I think that the S engine might have different turbos - based on the output the regular engine sounds similar to the engine in the E63. Based on what tuners have done to the E63, the GT63 should be highly tunable - and especially if someone is doing upgraded turbos I don't think there would be much of a performance difference between the GT63 and GT63s when both are tuned.

I exactly went thru the same thought process when I bought my GT. Other than red calipers and race mode, I could get it optioned with what I wanted and save over $10K.
MB got smart after the second year and you could not get all options like an upgraded interior with the base car.
I would absolutely save the $$ and go with a tune (if you comfortable with that) to add the power later if you wish (will give you more than the S)

I can say the tune makes the S a friggin beast. Nailed a 2.8 0-60 in it and that was after an hour drive home in the heat of FL. I'm more than happy. You can get the non S close I think but no exactly to the same level from what I understand.

For the AMG GT Sedan, the difference between S & Non-S is difficult to justify with the premium. It's different than say a C63 vs. a C63S, where the S comes with a lot of C63 options as standard, plus several exclusive features. If one were to option everything extra that the C63S had as standard on the base C63, then the difference was only like $4000.

With the AMG GT, the 63S comes with basically the following:
  • Alcantara Steering Wheel as standard
  • embossed AMG crest in the headrest
  • 20 inch wheels as standard
  • AMG Dynamic Plus package as standard
  • Performance exhaust as standard
  • AMG Drive unit as standard
  • Different engine tune

Speccing all those on a GT63 still leaves a $16K discount from the 63S. Essentially that means you're paying $16K for the tune, badge, and embossed headrest

Turbos are the same in both cars, after ECU tune, both 63 and 63S have the same exact power., meaning the gains in the first car are significantly higher, another proof that the S is just a higher tune in ECU from the factory.

You may want to clarify that statement slightly. You mean tune both the 63 and 63s you can get the same modified power result. A lot like when I got my wife's RRS Supercharged tuned and my tuner had guys with SVR's freaking out that the standard supercharged tuned w/new pulley was making the same result as their cars were when tuned (actually slightly better which is why they were upset). The tuners who supply my software out of Germany that my local tuning shop uses, show this to be the case with the 63 and 63s tunes. In my case this 63 wasn't even an option as Benz aren't bringing them here, forcing a big drop down to the 53 or the full enchilada 63s..

We both agree here, I thought that saying "AFTER ECU TUNE" would be clear enough.....
