Talking It's Built, It's On The Way - Is Progress Tracking Possible?

Greetings Everyone,

The wait is almost over. My car was built on Feb 22, 2005 and the transportation phase has begun. Soon, I will be

I would appreciate it very much if anyone could provide info about how to track the shipment? My salesman said that the info was not generally available to the public, but I think I remember a post with instructions for finding out what ship, progress, etc. Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

A search on the forums using the terms "track ship boat" yield a few threads. I think this is the one you are looking for:

It's been produced!!

I used the link T-Bone refers to and it doesn't appear I'm on a boat yet. Does anybody know if the E-class ships out of Bremerhaven?

Thanks for the info. I checked the web site and entered my VIN. There was no record of the vehicle, so my guess is that it is still on dry land. You can rest assured that photos will follow most pronto after delivery. Can't wait.

My friend (mb dealer) owns the indy dealership. we talked about this and it had something to do with lack of him having visibility UNTIL the car leaves the boat/something about an invoice is entered into the mb (north american) system. so I heard it was a lack of visibility thing.

right, wrong or indifferent, that is what he said.

please confirm when all is said and done.

good luck

Thanks Gid

I am not sure how the dealer visibility figures into the shipping company indicating the vehicle is loaded on one of their vessels. It is a bit confusing to me.

BTW - Any recommendations on breaking it in? I do plan to keep this car a long time if it does not develope a lot of maintenance issues. Thanks.

I had the same issue about getting the link to work, can drive 55. I imput my VIN number but it doesn't have a record of my car. My dealer told me a couple of weeks ago that my car would arrive at the VPC in Los Angeles on March 3 (Yes!!!-- in three days). After that, it would take about a week to get to the dealer (I guess they have a ten day backlog in unloading boats at the port.)

Ah, the torture.

BklynMarc,

Sounds good to me. When was your car built? My build date is supposed to have been on Feb 22. I suppose it is going to get here in a month or so from that date, whether the shipping web site tells me anything or not. I suppose I am just a little bit over anxious. Good luck with yours. I am sure you will enjoy driving it.

My car was built in late January, of uncertain date (but rumor has it, during an unusually fierce lightning storm deep in the German countryside).

You had better be careful with your car. That lightning storm could have given life your car like the Turbo Interceptor in the "Wraith". Speaking of such, look at what I just found. Victor, this Bud is for you.

can drive 55,

I have an explanation of why I was unable to track my car yesterday. My broker called today to tell me that my car was not on the ship at the time, but instead CLEARING CUSTOMS. The latest information is that it has been turned over to the VPC here in Los Angeles for a thorough inspection before being turned over to the dealer.

My broker estimates that the car will arrive at the dealer in 10 days and then gives a one day turnaround for the dealer to detail and prep the car for me. So, I'm looking to take delivery around March 10 or 11.

The irony is that I will be flying to South Florida on business on the 10th and returning late on the 11th. So, if the car is ready on either of those days, I'll have to wait until the following week.

If the car shows up on the WW site and is on a ship, you can use the ship's call sign to track its position here:

http://www.sailwx.info/shiptrack/index.html#search

Our last car came over on the Freedom and here is part of the track.

The WW link on the other thread didn’t work for me, so try this.

1. Go to the Wallenius Wilhelmsen site (In December it didnt’ work with Mozilla so use IE): http://schedule.2wglobal.com/AppTracking/cargoTrack.do I forgot where to enter the VIN under the “TRACK BY” menu. If it is on a ship either the RoRo cargo (Roll on Roll off) might work or try the bill of lading number and the ship will be listed. After leaving the port, the booking number will show the VINs of all the other Benzs on the ship.

2. Use the Voyage ID or Vessel Name here: http://schedule.2wglobal.com/AppSche...countryList.do to display the sailing schedule for your vessel.

3. Go this US Coast Guard site: http://cgmix.uscg.mil/psix/PSIX2/VesselSearch.asp to find your Mercedes-carrying ship's "call sign". I found the Freedom as a freight ship.

4. Then, with the call sign in hand, visit the Ocean Weather site: http://www.sailwx.info/shiptrack/index.html#search to find the current location at sea.

It you want to try it, the Freedom is crossing this week and the call sign is WDB5483.

The links work for me, but my VIN is not in the data base. I check Auto and RORO and I get "No tracking information is available for the Cargo ID you entered". Either my car is not on a ship yet or some other shipping line is carrying it. I wonder how long it takes from build date before the car sets sail. It was built on Feb 22. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hey escapement,

Congrats on your ride. So, you should have it soon, if not already. Hope mine caught a boat that quickly. Were you able to obtain confirmation from the WW shipping web site by entering your VIN? Thanks.

Count maybe 3 to 4 days after the start build date for assembly. After assembly the car might have to wait up to a week for transport to the port. At the port it gets checked in and waits for a ship to arrive or waits to get put on a ship. If everything went just right it could take a little over a week to be logged in on a ship...if it didn't maybe 2 weeks. Here is the Freedom.

My VIN showed up on the WW website today! My E55 is sailing on the Resolve and should be in Baltimore 3/14. The website says it was loaded 3/1 which is also the departure date for the boat from Breverhaven. It must take a few days to show up on the website, because I've been trying to track it several times a day since Monday. Sorry, I don't know my production date. My dealer estimates it will be here on the 20th.

Wait, now they say it left Bremerhaven the 2nd and will be in Baltimore on the 15th. I have to stop checking this stuff. It's like a disease!

I agree. I would probably check hundreds of times a day. I got lucky because my broker didn't get proper information from the dealer. I just found out about the WW site on Monday and checked at least five times during the day. It was only later that I learned that my car had arrived on 2/24 and had been sitting in port for customs inspection for a week. Now it's the wait until tomorrow to pick up the car.
