New GL owner no longer torn

Well, if you remember from a previous thread, I was shopping for a GL vs X5 and ended up settling for an ML, which is what my wife initially wanted. She had tried the GL months ago and did not even remembered it, so when we shopped last week, we did not even drive the GL, thinking that she really wanted something smaller and would not settle for a vehicle as large as the GL. It is funny how women's car section of their brains is underdeveloped, as I would not have forgotten a test drive of a premium vehicle like the GL.

Anyway, I woke up Saturday uneasy about our decision to get an ML with 2 kids and a dog, remembering some comments about dog crates fitting nicely in the GL and the arguments about its utility. I expressed this to my wife and off we went back to the dealership. Fortunately, they informed me they probably would not be even able to get the ML we had struck a deal on. We told them we had second thoughts, and test drove a GL 450, pewter with mac, app package, running boards, keyless go, P1 package, 3 zone, dual rear seat entertainment. My wife fell in love with it. We came back and made a reasonable deal in 15 minutes and an hour later drove off with our new vehicle. It is interesting how my wife could not even consider the R series because of the "mini-van, soccer mom" feel it has to it, but really loves the GL.

Thanks to you all for your comments, which really helped me with my decision.

Glad you went back to look at the GL. I think you made the right choice with kids & a dog. My 2 Labs ride great in the back of my GL. The cargo net that comes with the car works great at keeping them confined to the back.

Good for you! I'm sure you'll love it and we'll await further updates on the transporting of dogs, etc.

Now... pics please!

She'll appreciate the space when needed and not even feel it's there otherwise. Enjoy and I think that's a great color combination!

Great call, neuromb. Enjoy the ride but, please, post the pics first

And, make sure to give all credit to wife for the "intelligent" decision.

Same color combo as my GL. Enjoy. Hold the unlock button down and press it again, watch all your windows and sunroof open to cool off the interior.

I've learned to not second-guess my wife's car choices. If you'd pressured here into the R, you'd have never heard the end of it--until you traded it at a huge loss for a GL. Good to hear you managed to avoid that step.

I don't think I have mentioned this to anyone, because she's usually reading it over my shoulder, but one of my wife's comments when I mentioned how much more I liked the GL than the R was, "I'm glad I talked you out of it!"

Gotta go, she's coming back!
