gle63 vs gle63s
anyone have an opinion if the s model is worth the extra ~$7,000 over the non-s? my dealer has a gle63 amg with all the yumyums (21" black wheels, and most of the preferred options pushing the msrp to ~$108). but i don't wanna "settle" (if one can "settle" at the amg level already) by not getting the s instead. a few thousand is no factor. quite simply, am i going to regret getting the non-s? my use is not tracking it. just normal every day daily driver. and from my test drive ,,, what a beast the non-s is all ready.. what say you?

yeah, i know, i know, hype. im just wondering if the marginal 1/10 of 1s in rollout to 60 means anything in a non-tracked environ and is it worth and extra 7 large ,,, and the way the dealer has the "base" amg model equipped now it mirrors the s model with all the extra equipment so i don't feel like i am missing out on anything except the aforementioned 1/10 of a second. plus - i don't care anything about "nomenclature bragging rights" and having that 's' in contrasting black on chrome next to the amg letters means nothing to me. i had a '14 cls63 amg-s and it was blistering fast. but different animal than a suv to be sure. and i agree with you that our s classes are boring boats. that is why i am changing it up. anyway - thanks for the input; i'll think on it.

Soon: 2020 G63 Currently: 2016 GLE63 SUV + 97 F250HD, Before: 2013 G550, Range Rover Sport, 1984 CJ7
If you got the extra cash - get the S. Why not. I opted not to get the S but added every option to the non-s. Carbon, hitch, massage seats, etc. Also, it's not on the site build at benz.com, but you can opt in for the performance exhaust systems for $550 bucks. And another for $550 for the alcantara heated steering wheels (there's a bunch of options not on the site). I am not an expert driver to ever notice the difference in HP is what I told myself - but if I see you pull up next to me... :-(

One other thing in the S and not the regular 63, the headrest has a beautiful insignia of affalterbach. Again not sure that is worth it, but thought i'd share if helpful! If it was a $500 option I would have added it to my gle63. Why not. But all in all I did not need the S version. If the S badge is worth it, they are on ebay now for $20 bucks.

thanks, lads, for all the good and helpful thoughts. after thinking about it for a fortnight, yesterday, i traded my s550 for a new "standard issue" 2016 g550. i decided if i am going to go the suv route, i'd go all in and get the bigboy beast. always wanted a gelandewagen. and now is the time for it. thanks again!

Funny - I am trading a G550 in for a GLE63. You will love the G wag. Let me know if you are near NYC or VT. I have two sets of replica AMG wheels, 20" black with news wheels (blizzaks and all weather). And I have colored side markers - smoke black.
I wish I could have kept the G550 but it was just awful for the type of driving I do. 75% is highway. And found the steering was impossibly heavy for my liking.
Here's a photo of mine.
