I pulled the battery to swap with the Premium Advanced auto parts recommended here.
The bay bottom was covered with spruce needles from a nearby tree.
I was too lazy to get a vacuum, so I used the hose and the water just pooled. Pulled the battery tray & still couldn't find a drain plug.
The tray should drain, but it's really designed not to be exposed to water with the seals around that section under the hood. A word of caution - make sure the drain hose from the battery is connected and is properly routed through the drain hole in the tray, which is along side the drain hose from the water collector. My batter drain tube came out of that hole and was lying on the battery tray, and when the battery "burped", it left acid there which corroded the tray. You really have to remove the battery to see where this all goes.
That's the deal. I had the tray out & couldn't find the drain. Found the red wires but no drain. I'm guessing the dealer installed their MB battery right on top of the battery drain tube as the hose was flattened solid for about 2". Useless. I'll have to replace it and then I'll root some more for the drain hole
I remembered that I took photos. The first one is the battery tray showing the water collector drain tube (green arrow) and the battery drain tube (yellow). The drain for the tray is part of the grommet that the battery drain passes through (blue). It does have a nipple on the bottom that has to open to release water. Make sure it's free of debris. The second photo shows this from the bottom, behind the fender shroud.
