A Mercedes pickup truck, say it isn't so.

As far as I know the MB "R class " was just an "MB"fied version of Chrysler Pacifica (the old one- which was not a minivan anyway) when they owned Chrysler. Now I understand that the new Chrysler Pacifica is a real minivan replacement for "Town and country"

The current Mercedes-Benz mini-van is the V-Class aka Metris:

And this is how the MB minivan was born. If you haven't seen it already. .

Porschephiles gasped (and facepalmed) the Cayenne many years back. For better or worse, it forever changed the face of the company. Every 911 that followed seemed to have some of that chili-pepper DNA still in it. The company is now more vibrant than ever. Granted, MB's market niche is wholly different from Porsche's. But from a marketing standpoint, it's smart.

That said, if you want a pickup for its utility, why pay for that nifty little star when a less-pricey truck will do the job in spades?!!! I am exactly the demographic that MB is not trying to cater to

One could say, why drive an MB when a Kia will do the job in spades. I think we know the answer and it would also apply to an MB pickup...Few if any are buying an MB pickup to haul manure...

^^^Hey, it's the marketplace, right? I get it. Folks are certainly free to buy a reeeeaaally nice lumber (albeit not manure) hauler. I got no problem with that only because MB is already no stranger to trucks. I was simply musing, if not lamenting, over Porsche's direction over the last decade. Oh well ...some call that progress

I don't think I have ever seen any luxury pickup truck hauling anything in their bed.

Or a set of golf clubs. Certainly nothing that would have ever touched dirt. Heaven forbid. That would require an immediate full detailing of the truck. ;-)

Incorrect. That would require an immediate replacement of the truck.
