My car has the heater in the bottom dark part of the windshield where the wipers park. I think it is to melt the ice in cold winter to free the wipers from being frozen to the glass. I saw this heater on the broken windshield and on the new one they put on my car.
they did an awesome job all was flawless and the interior and exterior are flawless including the Alcantara a pillars; Benz logo is on the left lower windshield to demonstrate oem
There is a heater at the bottom like arrie described
Will have to get cameras recalibrated if I notice anything not working right... so far lane keeping works fine as does the rain sensor
thanks for all the assistance, guys
also safelite guarantees their work for the ownership of the car

My windshield has a wire harness for that heater right in the center bottom edge. I don't see that in your picture...?
Went to safelite today and of course they had the wrong windshield... the call center operator that scheduled my appt said there are fifteen different w212 windshields and I asked her why don't you just call Benz with my vin and ask which model exactly to save time and a wasted trip to safelite. She says that they will just check it on install day and order the right part of it's the wrong one. I even offered to call Benz myself but no, that would make too much sense. So of course I get there today and wrong part. NOW they will take my vin and order the right part direct from Benz LOL
also the Safelite guy said the windshield I needed is heated in an area by the wipers -- this is news to me, anyone able to factcheck?

I had pretty unpleasant experience with safelite when I was replacing windshield on 14 550. Call center and local safelite location assured me they got the right part, even used the vin number, but still managed to get the wrong part 3 times (2 times out of those I actually had to go to a local safelite location). I read reviews on safelite before contacting them and some complained how safelite get wrong parts all the time, but didn't didn't it would happen to me, 3 times. When the local location's manager called me to assure me that they got the right part for the 4th time and asked me to come in, the time wasted and aggravation was too much.
I went to another local installer, they got the right part the first time. So I know it was safelite's impotence that resulted in such poor experience. No more safelite for me if I can help it.
I just moved to the DC suburbs area and in my 3 mile hop on 495 in 2 days, I already got a chip, which after 2 more days of fluctuating fall temperatures has already resulted in a nice 12" crack up the center of the windshield... lovely. I'll also be looking to get insurance to cover it. Good times! Welcome to your new home, right?
I got my replacement on last Sept per ABRA Auto Glass thru my insurance with total cost of $1,125.68 and $132 for equipment re-calibration at MB dealer. As a note, even the Active Lane Departure seems to be working after windshield replacement but I am not sure if it works properly. One way to know for sure I want it to be check out per MB dealer. My out of pocket was $500 deductible. However, I also verify how well the windshield replacement I drive over 60mph without any radio/music to note any air leak or whistle. See the link for equipment re-calibration below
Just chiming in here...I've got a 2017 GLE 350 (had it for since September 2016) and I've got a big crack in it already. Gonna start the process of contacting insurance today/tomorrow. Must've been the cold weather that made the crack grow as we were skiing all day and came back to the giant crack (almost 2 feet long).
My 15 E63S sustained a rock 'chip' on a Thursday morning 2 hr drive. Was hit right at the black portion of the glass, near the lower
driver side of where the camera is concealed at the top. you could barely catch the tip of a fingernail in it.
By Friday mid-morning, two cracks about 8 inches in length, had started a race across the windshield in opposite
directions !
Have an appointment today at 230pm for a factory MB replacement with Safelite. Hope they ordered the right one !
Exoshield protective film with ceramic will be applied later this week
I did not have a good experience with Safelite used them on my GS350 at the end of the lease before I got my E, so is did not care much a bout the result which made for a good experiment. The tech showed up with a glass that had a scratch horizontally right in the center which he tried to wipe away (???...) away. Then he came back with another one that was full of distorted spots. And he mangled the clips from the side trim pieces. And no, he was not a newbie, 5 years experience. So if you have glass coverage my advice is to go to the dealer. Even better if you have them deal with the insurance directly will save you troubles and unnecessary extra $, as long as your insurance will do that. Big big plus, all work and parts at MB are warrantied for a year, windshield too, all the way down to tires - rips or cuts anyone?
Mine is at the dealer currently getting a new windshield after a rock on the highway cracked it. My insurance wanted me to take it to safelite but I ended taking it to the dealer instead. Keep in mind I do have OE endorsement on my policy as well.
Windshield installs are hit/miss. Doug Demuro had major electrical issues on his CPO E63 wagon due to water leaking into the electrical system - and the windshield was OEM and installed at a Benz dealer. So there's no guarantee anyone gets it right.
