sorry if this has been covered before but I couldn't find a definitive answer...for the 2017 C43, do the exhaust pops and crackles only happen with the Performance Exhaust System? Do they occur in all drive modes or just sport+ mode? Do they happen without the Performance exhaust System too? if so, is there a way to turn them off?
Pops and crackles are more likely with the Performance Exhaust since you can make the exhaust quite / loud whenever you want. They occur mainly in Sport and Sport+, and once the exhaust valves have been opened. They also (less likely though) occur if you're having a 'spirited drive' with the exhaust valves open in Comfort mode.
No way to turn them off fully, but they aren't obnoxious at all if that is your concern.
They also happen without the performance exhaust, but I've heard that it's less likely, unless you're in Sport+.
I just want to clarify something. The pops and crackles are a software thing, not an exhaust thing. The ECU (this was from the collateral) creates a controlled backfire on overruns. This car has no exhaust flaps.
There is however another sound that it a burble that happens when the engine speed decreases quickly. This is an exhaust sound that happens because there is extra space in the pipes and the exhaust gases kind of bunch up.
Both these things happen on my c450. It has no exhaust flaps and does not have a true dual exhaust.
BTW, will someone with a c43 with the performance exhaust please post some photos of the system? The 63 has the dual tips so the muffler's can split off. I'm curious to see how they do it with the c43 since they have single tips.
I have heard quite the contrary to the poster above. To my understanding, the AMG performance exhaust introduces a link tube upstream in the exhaust system that does indeed adjust the sound of the exhaust system by moving flaps accordingly to route the exhaust fumes.
I haven't hoisted one of these up and taken a look personally, but unless someone has done that with a C43/63/63S with the AMG performance exhaust, I don't have a reason to believe otherwise. Anyone?

Photos of the c63 exhaust as well as Chris Harris showing its operation in front of a full scale mock up of the entire exhaust system are both available. The 63 performance exhaust has 3 bypass valves that reroute around the muffler. They make the sound louder and meaner.
In addition to the c63 system, there are also photos of the c450 system, which is entirely different and does not include any flaps. So again, the exhaust system on the c450 does not cause the crackles and pops, the engine program does. A straight exhaust system with no muffler's does not create a backfire. That noise is created by adding fuel and removing spark from the cycle so the fuel ignites inside the exhaust instead of the cylinder.
The only thing that hasn't been confirmed by any posters yet is what the c43 performance exhaust actually looks like.
Check out the C43 Exhaust from AWE-Tuning. It is a cat-back system and utilizes the OEM exhaust tips, which is cool if you have the Night Package, you get to keep the dark exhaust tips while upgrading the exhaust system. It should cure any crackle and pop sounds.
I checked the post but still get confused.
1. Anyway to upgrade U78 after factory ?
2. if not possible to do U78 upgrade after factory, any third party exhaust can produce the same (pops, crackles. sound) and on off remote control?
I have a C43 with the standard amg sports exhaust, it does crackle and pop in sport plus, Has anyone done a resonator delete? how much louder is it and is the drone that bad?

do we have a way to change our standard exhaust to the sport exhaust? I did the muffler delete. Sounds better...but still missing that crack/pop! Any direction would help!!

The only way to increase the pops ands cracks is with a tune, not with a different exhaust since the pops and cracks are coming from the software and not from any exhaust you install . I have also a sport exhaust and not the performance exhaust and I got a tuner to add pops and bangs to the tune, it can be done believe me I have it with decat downpipes from supersprint and it sounds like a true racing car, glorious and INCREDIBLY loud
I'm pretty sure that some of you guys have real issues going on with your PE, but emotion start works for me. I just pull and hold the left paddle while starting up the car. As for the exhaust sounding loud when the PE is disabled, there are times when the car will keep the exhaust flap open until the car is warmed up. I notice this behavior when I start my car up in the morning on a colder day, then after about 10 minutes of driving, the exhaust quiets down, until I enable the PE exhaust manually.

Can you please post a video with sound of your exhaust?
I am purchasing a 2021 AMG GLC43 SUV. I'm not concerned with the sound difference. Both the standard Sport Exhaust system and the optional Performance Exhaust system will sound good to me. However I am interested in whether there is a performance difference. Any input appreciated.
