K&N Drop In Cone Filter
This has probably been asked a million times but is the K&N drop in cone filter worth the $60?
is it all hype or do any of you guys truly notice any type of HP or MPG gains?
Also would it help out the turbo lag on the C250?

I'm convinced it's almost entirely hype, and also not entirely sold on the efficacy of K&N filters .

I've done it, and I can say from my own experience that right after I installed the cone filters, there was an immediate noticeable difference, there was more sound from the intake, more sound from the exhaust, and it rev'd faster. Once I got it on the road for the first time, I definitely felt an increase in acceleration from the seat of my pants.
Another dude I helped on the east coast do this coupled the Cone filters with the OETune and gained 30 WHP on a dyno with a graph to prove it on his instagram. Everyone I have talked to who has also done it, also report the same gains and never have problems. Seems like all the people talking about the "hype" or "hot air" are people who have never tried it themselves. That being said, you can always argue it's all for show, but I'm here telling everyone there are definitely noticeable gains from the cone filter mod. Yes, stock intake runners would be most efficient, and cooler in most cases especially on the c250 turbo motors. And on a hot summer day driving far, I will, and do put back my stock panel filters on. If you have a c250 tho Id look into the burger motorsports kit.

and for the burger motorsports, I really can't justify spending $200 when it's just a smaller looking K&N intake with a nice looking pipe to hold it...
but as for maintenance, did you ever have aNY problems with clogging up the MAF or and CELs?

No problems with the MAF getting clogged, I tried finding the page on the KN site where they debunk the whole oil in the filter thing can't seem to find it at the moment. But no problems with that for me.
The cone filters are from K&N, everything else is from Spectre performance, all part numbers and more info can be found on my mods thread below:

So I found this and think it would solve the heat shield issue. Now to plumb the front part directly to the entry point in the car

K & N sued spectre about 6 years ago and the settlement was so big that Spectre ended up being taken over by K & N, same with AEM. K & N sued everybody that was making aftermarket HP filters and they have been successful in killing off their competition. They do make a great filter.

Apart of all what has been said above it is a fact that MB paper filters remove a lot smaller dust particles than K & N filters.
One has to decide whether looks, sound & hype is worth a shorter engine life.

No, not at all. K&N air filters operate using a much different technology than other types of air filters. Most disposable filters are "barrier filters". That is, their filtering media acts as a physical barrier to dust particles, and once a dust particle covers a pore in the media, air can no longer flow through that space. This principle is called "surface loading". K&N air filters are built using a fabric filtering material which absorbs dirt and dust particles instead of physically blocking them. This is a principle called "depth loading". The pores in the material continue to let air flow through as the filter absorbs dirt in the media.

I also check inside my filters regularly since I did this mod and it's pretty clean in there, but then again I don't drive this car much and my area isn't so dusty I suppose.

In the end it's up to personal opinion and preference I guess. It's not like I work for k&n or anything but everything depends on several factors like how much dirt a filter can hold, how much air can pass through, the longevity of the filter, area of residence, even how you drive, so it's really hard to say which filter is better. For now I can only report my direct experience with the filters and I've used them on all my cars.
