Ended up getting a C7 Z06
Before I start I just want to say I'm not here to put down any Mercedes owners or talk crap! Not sure if anyone remembers but I planned on getting a AMG GT S but after some looking around I came around to getting a C7 Z06. The AMG GT S is a beast of a car but to be honest I saw one locally and have to say someone really has to know there cars to know that the AMG GT S is an expensive sports car. I saw one in person and I was surprised how small it was and it didn't really pop out. Not saying its a ugly car, I actually like how it looks but if you put one beside a Z06 I would have to say the Z06 looks better (looks are subjective!!!). On top of that I really wanted a corvette especially after what GM did to the C7 Z06. I love the car, it has great handling and the exhaust is amazing and on top of that the looks are killer. Someone will say that these are two totally different types of cars, but I beg to differ. Both are front engine rear wheel drive high horsepower cars. If we look at pricing the vette was 120k out the door. Obviously the interior isn't as nice as the AMG GT S, but I'm talking about the layout, the materials are really nice in the vette but the AMG GT S just has an amazing interior and it looks amazing. That just what I wanted to say. There was just something about the vette that made me get it. I have not driven an AMG GT S but from what I've read its a beast of a car !!!

I own a C7 Z and agree with what you said. I feel like the GTS is a combination of the Z and a 911TT. I have driven all three and will trade my Z for a GTS in a while. The Z is more raw and much stronger feeling to me (numbers agree) but it lacks that "German" feel the 911 has. I want the Z feel and the 911 feel, so I need a GTS.

I recently drove a 2016 Z06 my friend picked up last year. It is a raw and visceral car. Very fast and fun. Enjoy it. Chevy has always made a good argument with their Z06 packaged cars. If you do decide to mod it... My friend did Corsa exhaust on his. It is incredible loud. I thought stock was fine until I heard that haha.

Congrats on the new toy.
The Z was also on my top 5 list with the Viper and the Jag SVR.
The vette is more "in your face" and looks bigger but both are actually the same size: GTS is longer by an inch and 1 inch less wide (GT-C or R is wider than the Z).
Looks are subjective but what drew me away from the vette is that there are so many on the road and no ones knows the difference between a $60K base car and a loaded $110K bad a$$ Z.
The other issue was the lack of answers from Chevy on the overheating issues and the engine failures.

Thanks for this thread! Tactful too.
I'm glad other people see the Z06 or GTS choice. No hate on Porsches, but theyve never excited me. I like the rareness and "maturity" of the GTS vs the badass loud Z06. But i love those Z06s. My GTS is tuned and I was a little quicker than a stock Z, so that made me feel like I wasnt giving up too much in power. Of course a tuned Z could be a beast.
Im watching the depreciation on Zs and think now maybe I need both cars.

Z06 is a beast. I get way more attention in this car than the GTS. Got it in 7MT and its a great car for hooning around town and just all around "spirited" driving. Love the ability to pop the T-top for a very enjoyable cruise down PCH hearing that V8 supercharger screaming the whole way. This car destroys almost every supercar on the street.
The GTS is a completely different type of car and you cant really compare it to the Z06. Its more "civilized" and comfortable to drive if you daily (which i do).
Both are amazing in its own way

Z06 is a fun one so enjoy, I just hope you got employee pricing, otherwise the exit will be painful on it.

If you check all the boxes, a new one is easy to put in the 120K range. And that doesn't include the tax, license, etc. to get them out the door. Depending on the dealer however, they can be had at discount. A friend just picked one up.

Not sure if they will be at half price, but you can get them at a good deal. 2016s with incentives were around 70k ish range and ones that were loaded were msrp 107k and came down to 80k ish range.
