Exact 3m Part number equal to MB Part for Spoiler

Hello all. I have searched through the threads and have found a few different results.

Can anyone confirm the 3m double sided tape mercedes uses to mount a spoiler to the w204 on the trunk?

I have recently purchased an oem mercedes amg?/c350 spoiler color matched and would like to know the best 3m double sided tape to use. I would like the exact part number from 3m if possible, or a mercedes part # if there is one.

Thanks in advance.

There is absolutely zero info about the tape MB uses on the WIS as it should come preinstalled on the spoiler. I would just use 3M.

Go to your local auto body shop. They will usually sell you the couple feet you need, and maybe even the prep wipes.

Thanks for input guys! If I do go with that super strength modling tape is that size of .5 inch wide going to be best? I also heard some talk about a foam tape? I just want to make sure the tape is not to thick so there is no gap between spoiler and trunk but also that it will stick well. i am familiar with the prep process.

Just need opinions or experience with exact 3m tape to use. any one else have any input? thanks already for the help.

The 3M adhesive is called VHB (Very High Bond) and comes in different widths and thicknesses and each one has it's own part number even though the adhesive itself is the same. So, it is impossible to give an exact part number. What you typically see for automotive trim pieces is a soft black closed cell foam with the VHB on both sides. You should be able to get some at an auto parts store. You might be able to get a sheet of it and cut it to the size you want. I would recommend a thin foam instead of an actual thin tape just to make sure it conforms to the pieces you are sticking it to. If you use just the thinner tape you run the risk of it not adhering everywhere. Should not really have much of a gap.

I used to be in the membrane switch industry and we used that in outdoor and extreme environment applications. Works extremely well provided the mating surfaces are cleaned well.

I just installed an OEM one.

I used 3M 1/4" wide super strength double sided trim tape.

1/2" is too wide. OEM factory tape was 1/4" wide also.

I just installed the oem one as well. 2 strips of .5 inch on the main flat and 1 .5 inch along the small flat stuck it very well!

I used 3m 5952 .5inch wide 15ft long, was more than enough to make sure the spoiler isnt going anywhere.

I prepped with rubber 3m wheel 07498 to get all old adhesive off ( you can skip this if new spoiler)

I then washed tunk lid and spoiler with soap and water. let dry or dry with microfiber.

Then i used ispropal alcohol 91% to wipe down spoiler and rear deck lid.

I then heated up deck lid and spoiler until hot to touch with heat gun.

Layed tape down on spoiler first and heated that up hot to touch with heat gun.

Then lined up with 2 people on trunk to get an idea for edge gap.

Took off backing and heated both pieces up to hot to touch again then layed spoiler starting at one edge.

Heated spoiler for 15 minutesand lid after and let sit over night. It was 68 during the day and sunny, then dropped to 30 at night. cold for next few days. The documentation says if you can get it to 70 for an hour it drys to 50% or more strength. 150 or more for an hour is full cure. So thats why i hit it with heat gun for a while. It was probably 80% strength when I had left it after initial install due to heat gun.

I ended up buying from amazon. I have confirmed that it is the same 3m tape that Mercedes OEM uses.

The tape is Genuine 3M 1/2" (12mm) x 15 Ft VHB Double Sided Foam Adhesive Tape 5952 Grey Automotive Mounting Very High Bond Strong Industrial Grade (1/2" (w) x 15 ft)

Amazon Amazon

You will only need 1 roll. This is more than adequate. I did 2 strips of the .5inch on the top face and 1 strip on the rear face.

If you are buying a used spoiler, make sure to grab one of these 3m strip off wheels. They work for other stuff too.

3M Stripe Off Wheel 07498, 3/8" Mandrel, 4" Diameter x 5/8" Width,

Amazon Amazon

You will also need a microfiber cloth that doesnt leave dust residue, goo gone and also iso alcohol to prep surface rright before applying tape.

Attach tape to spoiler then spoiler to deck. It is easier with 2 people, although i did mine by myself.
