Elegance or sport
I've always felt that luxury cars should be just that!! "luxury cars " An S in my opinion shouldn't evan have a sport or AMG version. In fact it should be all about comfort and technology. It should be like being in your living room, enjoying your favourite music on the best quality sound money can buy. it should feel like riding on air.
I'm actually not too bothered with the looks, in fact the less sportier it is, the better for me.
The w140 was really ugly and huge, but in my opinion that was when mercedes jumped 10 steps instead of 1. The 126 was no where near the 140 in terms of technology.
126 is still timeless though. I'd love to get my hands on a 560sel. The one with the leaves under the label

Overall welcome upgrades with a couple small surprises...
1. Still showing the old touchpad/wheel combo.
2. S65 has been largely overlooked and hasn't received the planned updates (AWD, etc.) and is becoming the "slow" AMG while the S63 added a lot of performance.

Doing an interior with gray & brown tones? I will wait to see it in person, but it sounds horrible to me. In addition, the photos of that one interior show so many colors, textures & finishes that it just looks so busy and, IMO, overdone. Sort of like the current BMW 7-Series Individual interiors.

I love that saddle tan color, but then they ruin it by pairing it with all that beige material. To me, the interior would look just SO much better, if it were all saddle tan, with no contrasting upholstery. There are enough other colors, textures & finishes in there already, without adding another color.
And, from a company headquartered where the skies are usually cloudy, where it rains a lot and snows a lot, WHAT are they thinking with carpets that are damn near WHITE??? I'll agree that they look stunning when brand new, but they are ridiculously inappropriate for use on the floor of any vehicle that will see any type of normal use. And that almost white steering wheel! How long will that stay attractive? MB may have brilliant engineers, but sometimes their aesthetics people have their head up their ***. Below, this is what Bentley offers. Clean, luxurious and IMO, very classy and even, dare I say: PRACTiCAL!

I completely agree with this assessment. Year after year they do weird things with the wrong color contrasting door panels or upper dash elements. Only one I really like is the Designo porcelain w/ black - and they provided black carpet! They need to steal the Aston Martin or Bentley interior design guru...
That saddle tan is beautiful! And I AGREE! One color for the interior would be.....well......normal! Paying these prices you'd at least expect the OPTION to do so, especially when configuring one online!

It's a personal preference, as you seem to indicate. I prefer more variety, as long as the different colors work well together. The gray with light brown you posted in #32 I will agree does not work harmoniously. But as for an "all saddle tan" look (and this is IMO) I would liken it to making living room curtains of the exact color material as in one's upholstered furniture...it just doesn't appeal to me as much having different colors that work well together. Others may feel differently and there's nothing wrong with that.
Of course I think we can all agree that it would be nice if MB allowed greater choices for customers, at reasonable cost.
I like the saddle tan in MB's example enough that I'm toying with the idea of replacing my 2015 with a 2018, even though in the past I've always kept cars for 7+ years.
WOW! The interior on the 2018 S is unreal! However, I have to agree with the poster above about the Bentley interior being so clean fresh and easily laid out. Anyone who has ever driven a Bentley knows how much they do not make drastic changes to them because why mess with heritage and tradition? I mean look at that wood!

Sadly the W140 body to me really has not aged well inside and out.

What in the world is all that busy "egg crate" looking grill work in there? If that is really what it looks like, can you even imagine what the spring & summer insect swarms will do to that while driving on the highway? Geeze!! I guess they're trying to keep the detail shops busy!

I think the BMW 750 Individual interiors are clean. Definitely not busy and overdone like this. Although I think I kind've like this.

You know, you're right and I should have been more specific. I was referring to only the seats in the BMW. So many patterns, textures, and "Individual" labels. However, overall, the BMW 7 Series interior almost looks spartan compared to these photos we are seeing of the new S Class.
