Turns out the governor

is set at 131 mph on these cars (my '05 CDI anyway), and is quite easy to touch. Given that there's still about 700 rpm until the 4500 rpm redline, has anybody gone into the computer to up the allowable speed to 140 ish? How'd ya do it? According to my math, the theoretical redline top speed is a bit over 150 mph.

Purely academic conversation of course...

SAY WHAT?
I researched the subject few years ago and nobody in ole USA would touch it with 12 foot pole.
On gasoline cars I am pushing governor on 3rd gear. That actually can kick it like 3 mpg over, till computer realize the mistake.

I've done a bit of reading on the subject tonight. Ok, it is a well known fact that Mercedes has governed the car at 130 for the good old USA. Odd that they feel compelled to, but it obviously isn't mandated that they do so: A Honda can easily exceed that, to say nothing of a stock Corvette. Hell, my Suzuki DL1000 was governed at 135... until I removed the throttle body secondaries... touched 145 on that one day. Someday I'll have some fresh, broken in sneakers on the Ducati ST3S and will see just where I run into the governor on that. I know the "gentleman's agreement" on motorcycles is about 198 mph. I also know the Duc won't touch that.

As I mentioned, my research was done several years ago, but all I've got from stealers and MB USA was bunch of BS why the governors exist.
Some say becouse the cars are sold with low-rating tires.
Yet my ML at the time had 130 mph tires and governor at 115mph.
Friend's Chevy Astro has governor at 100 mph, so why I am complaining?
US is having lot of laws that are hidden from public knowledge and who limit citizen's rights.
Beside car governors I am P**ed that on whole West Coast I can't buy popular beer who would not be de-alcoholized below 3.5 %
I quit beer drinking as after 14 bottles all I had was full bladder.
So if you want to rant, I can bring you more samples.

Bummer. I prefer a nice oatmeal stout with my pizza - the local brewery makes one that pushes 10%; another pizzeria sometimes has one on tap that's over 11%. No governors there!
