Installed AMG Side Sill Panels On My C450

Had my local MB dealership install AMG side sill panels on my C450 (thanks to MB of Burlington, MA), and I have to say I like them a lot! I first considered just wrapping a portion of the stock side sills, but these AMG sills add WAY more depth. First, here's the before and after pictures:

BEFORE (Stock):

AFTER:

I ordered the AMG sill panels (part# 205-690-3004, list $1,100) online from mbonlineparts.com who had the best price, total shipped...$962.57, and they took about 2 weeks to make it to my house.
Here's what's in the box, the two small pieces are just drilling templates, and these extensions (2 pieces for each side) are fastened to the stock sills by blind rivets and 3M tape...

MBOB quoted me 2.5 hrs labor...$350 total, but wait...they also accepted the MB special of $100 off service running until May 31st, so the total cost was $250 installed AND MBOB gave me a free loaner to boot! Just make sure you schedule a time where it doesn't rain for a couple of days since the sill panels require 24 hrs of curing before they get wet. First thing I noticed when picking up the car is these things do stick out a bit, so watch your ankles! Here are some more pictures to show you what I'm talking about:

Wow. Must say looks awesome. Great choice. Might follow suit. So is it just changing the color matched section of your original sills versus the entire sill?

No, these AMG sill panels fasten onto the protruding portion of the stock "Sport" sills. No painting required.

Just got a quote back from our local MB dealer for these in the UK, install costs quite a bit more!!!

Article number: A2056903004 £745.20

Labour to fit 3-4 hours £504.00 to £672.00

They'd also want the car overnight for the bonding to cure.

I think if I do go for these it won't be an MB dealer install!

I don't blame you! I'd shop around dealerships first before you give up on them. Is MB running any discounts on service like they're doing here presently in the U.S.?

SO badass! I love the look. But no flics? I mean since you already decided to start drilling holes in your new Mercedes anyway, why not go the full amount.
You better watch out they don't get used as a running board. Maybe put some NO STEP airplane decals on the top lol.
When my wife and I were first dating, I picked her up during a snow storm. I put my *** in the car and kicked my boots together to knock off the snow before putting my feet in. She saw me do that and decided to kick her boots against my rockers. AHHHHHH WTF! I calmed down, and showed her how to properly knock boots giggidy. In hindsight, she had the right idea about kicking my Jaguar X-Type.

I'm just not a fan of the rear flics...over-priced pieces (list for $310 pair), and I feel if I add anymore "black" to the car it will be overkill.

You got that right! I'm already working on my speech as to what I'm going to say to people who are getting into my car.

I'm also contemplating about having some Clear bra applied to those sills to help keep them from getting scratched.

I must admit they look good, but there a few things I'd do to my C450 first before those.

The car itself is already beautiful so not much needs to be done in the first place lol. But if anything, I'd like a more aggressive exhaust.

I agree with you there! That's why when it comes to body mods, I think I'm done. Painting that God awful stock white diffuser satin black, and these AMG sill panels completes the cars look IMO. Although, if I ever mash the stock front brushed silver air splitter, I think I'll go with the stock black version instead.

As for the exhaust, unless I go with down pipes someday, I'll leave the stock exhaust on until then...plenty loud enough for me and my neighbors for now!

i'm going to be devil's advocate here

i think it looks slightly out of place, maybe paint body color? or chrome? or paint front lip + rear spoiler to black to have a black lip/sill theme.

agreed. these are too aggressive to not have a theme running throughout the vehicle - or a more aggressive stance, etc.

I like them on there own - but in this application I would prefer nothing.

I hear you...I'm afraid of adding too much black to the car, and making it look like a boy racer.

I like the sills in black because it slims the car's look from the sides (of course this would not work with a black car). One could almost get the same slimming effect with just vinyl wrapping or painting the protruding portion of the stock side sills.

Looks great. I didn't do this to my C450, but I did add-on the AMG rear flics (gloss black), which is something I'd recommend to you as well.

Did the AMG rear bumper flics require any drilling...or did they just snap into the existing insert slots?

I bought the fugazzi ones on eBay that stick on, the AMG ones require drilling like your skirts did.

The issue with them being black is that on the side view they actually make the car look like it rides higher than it does, because the black "reads" visually as negative space under the car. It also gives the car a "pinched" look in profile.

Having them painted to match the body would fix that and allow the rocker covers to visually anchor the car, giving the impression the car is lower than it actually is. They'll still look aggressive just by virtue of their design and size.

I think if they looked more like an integrated part of the car (by being the same color) vs being a high contrast accent piece they'd work better visually.

...and that "pinched" profile is what I like. Definitely attenuates the side profile of the car. What I am considering is removing the mud flaps, just not happy how they look with the new side sill panels. I only planned on running the mud flaps in the Winter anyway...and they're real easy to remove.

I see your point Mike, and if these side sills get all scratched up I would end up painting them...I don't know if I'd go with body color though. Funny thing, just about every W205 you see pictured that feature these AMG side sill panels installed are either silver or white, and the sill panels are always black.

I decided to remove the mud flaps...IMO car looks much better with the new sill panels without mud flaps.

I was considering the AMG front splitter but now you have me thinking if there's too much black if I added more than that. Hmm...

Since I've already had the rear diffuser painted satin black, the only other black add-on I think I'd even consider would be a black rear spoiler. Right now mine is still the stock silver. I like the look of this Iridium Silver C63s with the "blackout pkg." which only has black side sills, a black diffuser, and black rear spoiler (no flics)...

Personally, I think the Black on the splitter looks good. As long as you don't start blacking out the grill you should be OK

I was thinking of getting the skirts wrapped - but now I see these options...
