What do you think of this color combo?
Thinking of ordering a new SL, but can't decide on a color. I realize this is an SL65 and that mine would probably be a 450 or 550, but what do you think of this blue with the brown/beige interior?
I've never been a fan of blue cars, until I saw the SL in blue. It's really gorgeous, and that brown/beige interior is stunning. The blue metallic paint really pops, even more than the Cardinal Red Metallic, and although I love the color combination, I couldn't see myself in it. However, I can certainly admire the car, as it is very handsome. Good luck with your decision. I know I took weeks to decide on what I wanted out of the build, and I'm sure you're doing the same thing.

Are you at all concerned about resale or will you be leasing this car?
While I'm not officially in the car business, I may as well be with all the time I spend talking cars with people who are in the industry. And I can tell you that color combo is VERY important. That interior is not everyone's cup of tea, and while I love blue cars I too am not sure I could own one myself and from a resale point of view, blue is just not a hot seller.
Black and White are the most desirable and sought after exterior colors and best for resale, anyone telling you otherwise is Bsing you. As for interior, you can never go wrong with black (although a little boring for sure). But nonetheless, black, white (porcelain in mercedes terms), brown and red are all pretty much the most sought after for interiors.
Good luck with whatever you decide...hope I was able to give you some insight

The more I look at this blue car, the more I realize that one of the things I like so much, is the blue color with all that beautiful SL65 chrome trim. Here's the car in SL550 trim. Nice, but the color just doesn't pop like it does on the SL65.

In all respect to Slammed63, I have no doubt that color makes some difference in resale.
That said, if you can consider buying a $100k automobile I think it should be exactly what makes YOU happy. NOT what some unknown buyer at some unknown time in the future might like. Go for your Blue !!

I'm not all that much interested in resale value, as opposed to having just what I want. The problem, is that what I REALLY want, is good, ol' "Resale Red," better known as Mars Red, but MB has dropped this magnificent color from the SL, so I'm looking for second best. I keep going around in circles, always coming back to "Plain Vanilla" white.
I prefer the Polar White over the Artic White thought they are close in color.
Polar White is brighter.

Artic White in parking slot # 35.
Not my pictures......
We elected to go with the Lunar blue for our SL550 with the ash grey interior. Logic on my part, you do not see this color every day. Most of the SL's in my area around Nashville are black, followed by white, then silver. Occasional glimpse of the lighter grey or the Mars red, but I have seen zero blue. OK, so maybe it may not be the 'most' popular color for resale, but there is something to be said for individual choice. And damn it looks good with the light playing on the paint surface.

Not to mention that they discontinued the two-tone gray, which I thought was a wonderful interior color. Now, to save money, the light gray is paired with black, like EVERY interior, other than the Ginger Beige/Espresso Brown. Black, black, black. The company is pinching pennies on their luxury cars. Pretty soon it will be just like Henry Ford: you can have any color, as long as it is BLACK! By the way, I think your car is lovely and very different.
Here's the gray & black. To me, not nearly as attractive as yours.

As I read about the changes proposed for the next-gen SL (modular architecture) and see how the current models are being winnowed down in options, I become more convinced that the R231 will be the last of the bespoke SL models. There may some better cars coming down the road, but apparently none that will be a truly dedicated platform. So, I am guessing this old blue nag will be in the barn for a while. Not a bad thing, IMO.

If you order the car the car with the $9200 SL designo edition option, you will get the chrome pieces over the front bumper air intakes
At that point you will also get the same 19"/20" forged SL wheels shown on the SL65 (just not polished) and an upgraded interior.
You may not like the wheels, I don't like the white piano lacquered word trim and white/black steering wheel, but overall it is actually a very cheap package.

The exterior trim & wheels are beautiful, but that interior, IMO, is horrible. Typical MB BS. They should just make the trim & wheels optional across the model line and let the buyer pick exterior color & interior & trim.
Still waiting to hear if they will paint me up a Mars Red 2018. Order has been placed, but no final word yet.
Please post some photos when you get the chance. We are considering an SL with this color blue, but it would be difficult to tear me away from the Lunar Blue.
