E450 Strange Quirks?

New member here, having just purchased a 2019 E450 wagon with 35k miles. Overall a lovely car, but there are a couple of baffling quirks that must have simple fixes but I can't figure out what they are.

Firstly, the fuel filler flap won't latch shut after it's been released unless I lock the car first. It feels as though the electric actuator is releasing it every time it's shut. Once it's finally shut it stays shut even when the car is unlocked. Baffling.

Second, when I washed the car the other day it constantly locked and unlocked itself, mirrors frantically flapping in and out like a beached whale. It only happened when I was washing the car, not when I was drying or waxing it. Again, baffling.

The Comand software is pretty old, I don't think it has ever been updated - could that have something to do with it?

Take the keys out of your pocket while washing and leave them 10-15 feet away from the car.

Weird that it only does it when it is wet.

Well, do you spend a lot of time running your hands around the door handles when it’s dry? I doubt it.

Mikey 53 is correct: I too have a 2019 E450 Sedan. You must either leave the keys inside the car or away from the car, but not in your pocket. When I have the keys in my pocket the doors keep locking and unlocking as well.

As to fuel filler cap not closing, I have not had that problem.

Not quite sure about the fuel filler cap, doesn't sound familiar.

As for the vehicle unlocking and unlocking when washing, you could double click the lock button to temporarily disable keyless go if you don't wish to leave your key at a distance.

As for COMAND, the latest version seems to be 06.80.00.40 (to check, it is something along the lines of going to the home menu screen and then go all the way to the vehicle icon, push down and hold the rotary knob in the centre console for about ten seconds and release I think). A dealer menu will then pop up or maybe called engineering menu, most likely the former, and then you just select software version or software edition, forgot what it is called.

Sounds like a common location got wet causing malfunction. First step remove right side load compartment panel to check for moisture fuel door locking mechanism, KG CU, and rear SAM (fuse panel) are located here.

My 2018 moves the mirrors in and out when I'm hand washing it. I'm guessing water on the door handle where the touch sensor is or maybe it's trying to dump the water out of the mirror housing. Only happens with car off/ key outside so I assume it's normal.

Doors unlocking/locking while washing car is normal, it's sensing capacitance changes. Keep keys farther away from car or out of your pocket. Same reason your phone's screen goes crazy when wet or with wet fingers.

simple fix for the car washing annoyance is to double click the lock button on your key FOB, it will temporarily disable keyless-go until you press lock or unlock on it again.

The wife's 2019 E450 Wagon just had a failure of the side mirrors to unfold. She was afraid to drive it with no side view mirrors so Mercedes put it on a flatbed to the dealer. The fix was a software update that had to be performed by the dealer. No notice was ever sent out to my wife that software updates were required. Why can't they be performed remotely?
Anyone else having software issues?
