Ok, it looks like the resume issues are isolated to the 1000 song disc. I tried the 750 song disc (without album folders) and it was able to resume playback right where I left off after performing a restart. It also resumed an MP3 CD-R just fine. I also tried a MP3 CD-R with album named folders and it resumed on that one fine too. It still did "load" each disc (a bit shorter when resuming then on a new insert) which I'm guessing is because the system doesn't save the titles of the songs in memory while the car is off but does retain a marker for where it left off.
Unfortunately, the album named folders on the 500 and 750 discs also didn't read properly. For some reason, it still would only "see" songs in the first 42 folders (the first 41 in the case of the 500 disc). Of course, the number of folders on those 2 in total was still a lot (152 in the case of the 750 disc and 120 or so on the 500).

Sort of on topic but off....speaking of DVD for the Command and not being able to see the picture...
A driver in NY was cited for watching **** on the DVD system of his MB....apparently it was visible to other drivers as well.

As far as I know so far, the S-Class and E-Class COMAND have diff. DVD head units, hence different capabilities (regarding MP3 and DVD video features).
Besides that it is probably possible to tweak the system (never heard of successfull result yet).

My dealer knew nothing of this upgrade (surprise, surprise), but stated I could buy a dedicated 'Mercedes-Benz' Mp3 player that would fit in the glovebox and take power from the socket sited in that location.
Unfortunately I did not ask him for any further details, as I am prepared to wait for this upgrade.
