Vibration/rough idle after oil change and check...Need Advice!

Some Backstory:

1:
So I took the C63 to one dealer because the check oil message came on. Turns out it was low and they topped it off with a quart.

I saw them fill it up with a big yellow pourer that was open to the elements, and I thought that our Mobil 1 comes out of individual containers...so I suspect they used a cheaper, incorrect weight of oil.

On the drive home, I was seeing elevated temperatures in the AMG menu, temps I had never seen before. In fact, in driving it like a granny, I was seeing temps that in the past would take me flogging it in manual to get that high. And I always keep it in the AMG menu and monitor temps. So I'm thinking: what changed?!?

2:
Then...I take it to another dealer. Tell them what I was experiencing. They concur. We agree on oil change, they do the oil change, and check the 'oil coolers' (that may not be accurate, I don't remember exactly what the SA said), and say they are operating properly.

So I get the car back after the oil change, and I notice that at idle it's now quite rough. And I know it's a big V8, and I expect it to be rough, as it was before, what I'm saying is that it's not only rougher than before the service, but just off idle there is a vibration that starts to shake the instrument panel. Something isn't right.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

So the whole point is, it wasn't like this before...

I took it right back and they checked the idle and said it is 'within range'. I regret saying the idle feels rough, because it's more that it feels like the engine is out of balance at those low idle and off idle RPMs. Out of balance. That's the best way to describe it.

So, my plea to the community here:
Anyone experience anything like this?
Does anyone have ideas of what could be going on?
Any advice on how to speak to the SA/what to say to get them on the right path?

Really frustrated here. Would appreciate any support.

Something completely unrelated, perhaps bad gas?

Do you have oiled filters like K&N or other? Maybe you have a problem with a MAF sensor. I could be a lot of things. The fact the car was low on oil and then the subsequent oil change may have nothing to do with it. Was your coolant temperature high as well? It is possible you have a bad plug, coil pack or plug wire and are not running on all cylinders. Really hard to tell and I have not had a similar problem.

Did you check the oil level and if so how low was it?

Keep a close eye on your temperatures and good luck with the diagnosis.

I agree that the oil top-up and change are unrelated. I also think that your second dealer lined their pocket just to give you some piece of mind.

Why do you think the first dealer didn't use the correct oil? Because they didn't pour it out of a 1 qt. container? Dealers buy their oil in bulk drums - they don't use the 1 qt. containers. If they did, they would have like 34 thousand empty containers to get rid of each week.

Did you check the oil level after the car cooled down? It could just be a simple case of too much oil. Filling past the top mark will cause some vibrations from my experience.

I thought there was a thread about this exact issue before.... I believe the culprit was too much oil. I suggest checking your oil levels and make sure you have the correct amount.

Gentlemen,

The symptoms that your describing can occur, from having to much oil in your car.
I would let the car warm up to it's operating temp, then shut it off. Then do three completely different oil level checks, wiping the dipstick off after each check. If it is too much oil, go the dealer and have to siphon off the extra oil. Too much oil can blow seals, force oil into your induction system. Cause excess oil to push past the piston ring, causing it to burn excessively oil. Don't over rev your car, thinking that it will help, your only adding to the problem, visit your local shop asap.

I'm having the same issue I think...slightly rougher than normal...not really bad, but just enough to notice it. Oil check before I left the dealer after rvice b1, showed it to be slightly above the max point. Hope removing some oil helps...otherwise it's seems like a bit of the merc refinement is removed.

Just came back from the dealer. We put the car on level ground to get the oil level. Waited about 10-15 minutes after shutting down the car to measure the oil.

Oil temp before shut down was almost 200F, Ambient temp was about 90F

The oil level was in the upper portion of the "full" tab. Dealer siphoned oil, up to the point where the oil was just right below the "full" tab.

Car felt instantly better. Smoother idle, and this may be psychological, but the sound also improved back to normal (The car felt like it sounded more quiet and muffled prior).

I'm going to revive this thread from the dead. Why? Because of new owners like me. Had a rough idle and didn't know why, searched on here and it said too much oil. Would have never believed it. My car just got back from the dealer for some warranty work and they added a quart unbeknownst to me. Sure enough it was past the full mark. I siphoned out to just at the full mark and viola, no more rough idle. Love this forum!!! Thanks.

Well, I checked the owners's manual and the pictures in the manual are very different than the dipstick in my car.

My dip stick has three red plastic rings on it. My oil level was on the center ring when I bought it and I now have a 1000 miles on it and it is still in the same place.

Is the center ring the full mark? If so what is the top ring for?

The oil level should be between the top two red markers. Your oil level is at the bottom of the acceptable zone. It would not hurt to get your dealer to add a quart (litre). They should do that for no charge to you. The difference between the two red rings is ~ 1.6qts (1.5L).

Top mark is full, mid mark is about a quart low, bottom mark is 2 quarts low.

My car is shaking after engine oil change. Is it a sign of low quality oil or any leakage?
