Could be that almost no one knows because WIS does not seem to explain how the antenna is removed/installed. I'm afraid it isn't safe to remove it unless a small torx screw is removed from the bottom first, meaning you have to access the antenna from behind the roof lining first.

So you think there's a small screw from under is holding it? Because that would be a PITA to remove the headliner just to remove the antenna?

Cant resist commenting here. I had the roof of my 08 S550 painted because it got some random dent in it. I didn't notice till it was sitting next to my 2010 they had put the antenna on backward. Dealer sold the 08 as CPO. So....someone is driving around with their antenna facing the wrong way.

Except when he is reversing? Or is it still wrong.

Very funny, except that MB workshops should not have mechanics that do things like this.

I hate the way this antenna looks, its on my dads car, its a very early car so it's the one with the fin. Eventually they made it the lump and then integrated it into the roof antenna.

Any one know how to remove this antenna? I assume you have to pop off the trunk lining, I just need to find a way to plug the hole...

suggestion, post the instruction so others who plan to do the same project need not keep on asking you for it.

The documents are covered by MB copyright and it would not be legal to share for everyone.

I know some do it, I have not problem if others do it but I don't dare to do it myself.

You can subscribe to Startekinfo, print the documents and share them here, problem solved.

It must come off like you say, remove the top lining and you should reach the screw that keeps the antenna attached.

The later "flat" antenna would probably fit, do you feel that too is too ugly? A lot more work to replace the roof antenna with the new one if you want to maintain satellite radio.

Was washing my ‘09 S550 this afternoon and noticed the sharkfin antenna is not firm to the car anymore. It has a slight left/right wiggle, very little. But it makes think it is no longer water tight to the roof. Before I dig into this too far, any commentary?

So according to AR82.70-P-8952EW, removing the cover is a simple as cutting the adhesive surrounding the underside of the antenna cover? If so, is it only held on by glue, thereby I have a risk of the cover blowing off at some point since mine has slightly loose?
The instructions in the same document point out that it ruins the cover to remove it, therefore a new one has to be used. Seems like one could just glue the same one down with a weatherstrip glue?

its a special glue. I believe it’s the same type of sealant used when windshields are replaced? The wind will never be able to just blow it off. Even if you tried to rip it off with your hands. You’ll likely damage the antenna cover,or even worst the roof itself.

Ooooh, that's the stuff they use to fix the spare tire tub to the chassis. Yeah brutal stuff.

Well, my worry is water ingress. Again, it just barely moves left and right, I mean just a degree or two. I noticed it moved a little when I was washing the car. Thoughts on water ingress?

So looking at the photos in this eBay listing, it sure doesn't seem like there is glue of any kind under the antenna, just a gasket and four screws that hold it to the roof. Perhaps they just need tightening? Yes I would be concerned about water.

No, I believe the cover does not screw to the antenna. In the previous post, one can study the instructions on "removing antenna" and "install antenna cover" and see the cover is separate and is glued to the roof. The Antenna screws to the roof. Not sure if the cover actually has clip or snap to the antenna, but it certainly is piece which is removed first before removing the antenna, therefore it seems it can come off and then glued back down?

Ahh, sorry I missed Konigstigers' post. Yeah, so glued down with 221 670 81 01 (looks to be superseded by 000 670 01 00).

And I believe you are correct that it feeling even slightly loose would indicate that it needs to be re-attached.
