2005 C240 4MATIC - Replacing Window Regulator - Window Stuck
Ok, so I'm undertaking replacing my window regulator on the front driver's side. One day I put the window down, heard the grinding noises, and I knew right there I was in trouble.
I'm following this guide:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti..._Regulator.htm
I have the new regulator, and the rivets.
I have the door taken apart. I have the first set of rivets out for the airbag module and the handle. I have not drilled out the rivets for the regulator assembly yet. The regulator definitely is busted. The cable is messed up on the motor side - so I know it needs to be replaced. I can see where it's broken.
My problem right now is that the window is stuck all the way down. I tried to manually lift it up, and it only will budge up an inch, so I can't get it up enough to get to the bolts that are attached to the glass.
Thoughts? The battery is still connected. Would the motor be holding this in place? Should I just get another person and really muscle the window up?

Ok so I finally cut the cable and that freed things up. I have the new regulator in place. However I have a manual rivet gun, and I have a total of 13 rivets to install. This is going to take a while and some extra arm strength.
The only thing I'm concerned about at this point is will the motor be able to tell when it should "stop" at the top or bottom with resistance? Is there a re-sync procedure that I need to do for that window? Also, since I couldn't turn the gear on the motor when I inserted it into the regulator I just hope that the gears mated properly and adjusted into their grooves ok. It was a tight fit.

Ok I finished the job. This isn't too difficult a job. It definitely is nice if you have another set of hands.
One tip: get aluminum rivets. The ones from Mercedes are stainless steel, and take A LOT more effort to install with a manual rivet gun. Aluminum ones are just as good, and much easier/softer to use with a manual rivet gun.

Yes ~ Stainless blind rivets can be heavy going. I like using lazy tong riveters for them if there is adequate access.

Chris - thx for the write up as I have to replace my left front window regulator on 2004 c240 wagon. I realize this is an Old thread but was wondering if you can share the P/N you used that worked for your repair? I see several part numbers for the left.front driver window regulator and think the correct one for mine is 2037201546. If your still on these boards let me know if you can share on the part number thx j
