Has anyone retrofitted footwell lights or door courtesy lights to their GLK?

I don't have the ambient interior lighting package, so it is pretty dark at night.

I really miss the footwell lights and door courtesy lights from my previous VW.

They are really helpful when getting out of the car in a dark garage, especially with a black interior.

Yeah, I'm looking at adding the stock ones, not these.....

My doors have reflectors only not the active lights and I don't have anything in the footwells.

When I unlock my car at night my cabin and dash lights come on for about 20 seconds until I get in the car and start it. The same goes for my headlights. I always leave my headlights on automatic. I never have a problem at night. Mine has a switch on the overhead console to activate the interior lights when unlocking the car.

Well, I'm halfway there. It took a while to get the appropriate information, but I finally have the factory footwell lights fitted and working.

Looks great. Was there an actual socket to plug the footwell housing into or did you run a tap to a different trigger wire? If you had to run a tap, the problem is you probably wouldn't have two current levels (torch vs ambient vs off) when door is open and closed, but if there was a factory plug that just had to be plugged in and functioned correctly, that's awesome.

I found a USA source for oem light housings under $8 each if I'm reading the part number right. Connecting is the question. Same for the door panel lights. I got replacement housings for the reflectors but when removed didn't feel / see anything up in the door. Have to take the panel off and look for a module or connector.

What's up? Was wondering if you had any guidance for installing door lights on GLK. Much to my dismay, I too only have the reflector installed (I'm assuming. I haven't taken the door panel off yet). I just got this in the mail:

It would be nice to hear how people made it work. I tried to buy lights to go in the footwell and to replace the reflectors in the doors. The reflector replacement didn't fit at all, and the footwell lights didn't appear to have any plugs available for them.

Hello everyone,
I am new here but wanted everyone to know how I wired in welcome door lights on my 2013 GLK that only had reflectors in the doors. I tipped down the console that houses the interior light. See the picture
Once you tip down the console turn the light sockets a quarter turn and remove the socket and solder the wires on the side and then
snaked the wires towards the windows (remove the sunshade courtesy light) that makes it much easier. You will need to flex the trip that runs along the interior windows down the door. Next sneak a wire inside the door through the door conduit into the foot floor area on both sides of the SUV.

The door wires can be run by removing the part of the door that pops out (horizontal) from the door window switch. See the second and third picture

how were you able to get the wire through the conduit without taking the door apart? It was very tight for me trying to pull a wire through there.

Do you have links to the lights that you used? Everything aftermarket I have bought for this car, has failed. Even when it says it's for a 2013 GLK, it doesn't end up fitting.

i got the lights but the cable harness still has to be made. You can do the lights with a set of wires independent from the cabin harness, but that just looks sloppy to me.

I need a wiring diagram to find out where to run to the oem relay.

I don't have access to that. That's another reason why i'm just gonna use the factory harness. I don't wanna go through all the mess of tracing wires and making new wiring.

I have a 2011 GLK350 and have a question

I don't have the lighting package but want these, is there a pre-wired plugin for these if I order OE lights from MB? Or would I have to wire these independently like above?

Well finally got around to this again, the local dealers (Yes i called several) doesn't want to work with me and look up the part number! BOO!

One stated that I'm looking at several thousand dollars just for the wires and another few thousand to disassemble the car. WHAT?

I don't remember the part number is that expensive, even if it was $300-400 I would still do it. I bought a pretty long Benz wire harness set a while ago and it was only $30. But I suppose I will just get the local Audio shop to build me a separate connection from scratch if I can't order the original harness.
