Exhaust sound on cold start S63
I love the exhaust sound of my car(2013 S63) when I start it cold. I know that it revs higher in order to warm up the cats. What else does it do? Does it bypass mufflers or x-pipes? What makes it sound so good?

I had a 335i that did the same thing, its the turbo waste gates being left open during warm up. It causes the awesome sound you are talking about. Now if you left them open all the time you would have no boost

Sound when cold is due to programming in engine management that retards ignition timing to 'fire into the exhaust' for more heat to light up exhaust catalysts sooner. Prolly gets them up to temperature ten seconds faster? Anything for Mother Earth.

I guess you can't program like that permanently because you can damage the CAT. I wish they could program it so it would sound like that all the time without damaging the cat.

Do you know that stopped happening to my car after battery replacement? and the high idle doesn't last that long, I don't care of it's not hurting anything, but if needs fixing how to reset that? thanks.
