recording video from our cameras
I wanted to know if any is recording the video from the 4 cameras we have on our cars.
I would thinking of getting as dash-cam but if there is a way to record using exiting cameras that would be great.

That will be ideal, huh? I have read similar questions in the past but there was not an answer to that. Certainly more complicated than anything. MB should work on that.

I am sure its is all available. It accessing the data.
I mean cameras and video on the screen are there, just need to record it.
This is where the Playstation gen would come in handy.
I am sure sooner or later a hidden code will be available.

It would be cool to have them recording like a dash cam ... At least the front and rear

There's a thread like this about pretty much every car that has 360-cams... And the answer everywhere is pretty much the same: it probably can be done, but no one has done it to date. I think car manufactures had this in their heads as soon as the 360 cams appeared, but won't implement because of possible legal issues. And self-coding (my personal experience with this is with BMWs where the coding scene is far more open that MB one) won't help as in order to code something in, the manufacturer has to give you that feature inside the OS... until it's not there - there's nothing you can do, rather than rewrite the OS completely )

Indeed, it definitely involves rewrite the program and the OS as mentioned. Of course nothing is impossible, but doing so is extremely difficult.

The lenses used on the 360 degree cameras are unsuitable for dashcam use (i.e. they're focal length is very short and they have too wide an angle). This is likely why no manufacturer has the 360 cameras doubling as dashcams.

Have you ever looked at the views of the four cameras? They are really terrible for documenting anything of evidentiary value like license plates or mechanism of injury

Those damn cameras will cost you money. I had a rock hit me front window and cracked it last week and Safelite Autoglass for an E class window replacement was $300. Then they realized they ordered the wrong window and need one specific to E63 and when they got the correct part number from Mercedes Benz with the camera and internal antenna and the price went to $795. Then they told me that it would cost another $300 to calibrate the cameras so that rock that cracked my window is costing me $1100. So I'm not a fan of our cameras right now.....

these are different than the four cameras around the car in the front grill, under each rear view side mirror and above the License plate

You can wait for the cops to come, and you have evidence that they are lying. They don’t think you have a dash cam because it’s integrated.
I actually did this with my reverse camera on my VW Passat and just plugged it into the second channel input in my front dash cam which was mounted to the windscreen.
The way i did this was to use an rca splitter since the camera was CVBS (or RCA input). I just used a RCA to TRRS adapter and was able to split them very easily - separating out the power wire for the camera.
In my S212 from what I’ve gleaned Mercedes may use a Fakra connector for the camera. Or even better if they are like VW they have a + and - input for the camera into a terminal. I also have experience terminating these by tapping into the terminal with a parallel connector.
All you need to do is tap into the cameras from the front and back and take it off in parallel - as long as there is power to the cameras which I think there may be constantly. In my case when I am able to put in carplay module I can then just also wire these existing front and back cameras up to the “aftermarket” camera inputs which are likely CVBS or HD-TVI over RCA composite connectors.
What will be a fatal flaw is if they use fibre optics which I doubt because it’s extremely expensive for this application and Mercedes could spend the money elsewhere on the car.
Does anyone know or have the wiring diagrams or connection concept for the S212 (W212) 360 cameras? If you know the signal type or if Mercedes uses a camera modulator at some point then I can figure this out.

To record from you 360/front camera, you will need make your MB accept designated UBS as download destination, activate recording, program for 10 mins length over ride. ...so far, I have not been successful doing this. .

REPLY: A similar hidden code for TESLA was recently unveiled simply by formatting a USB in 32 fat format and inserting it in one of the USB slots, red dot cam will appear on your screen and recording can be downloaded every 10 mins on your USB. But the problem with S CLASS MB from 2017 and newer is that the camera refused to accept the USB as as downlead destination. The default hard drive for recent 2017 and newer S Class is so small, you can only store maybe 100 songs.

There is a USB slot on the W212. There's also an SD Card slot (although who has SD cards anymore....). Maybe that can be used instead?

REPLY: But the problem is those slots are read only, MB ensured they are not downloads designated. ...so even if you eventually record..which the cameras can easily be made to record with little twick, but still, download/save designation not available.
