Is this a belt noise
Hello all, today my c43 started making this noise. Is it a loose belt? It's the worst at start up but stops then randomly comes back during driving for short times. I attached the link.
I'm not mechanically inclined at all so hopefully i don't sound stupid haha.

just remove the belt and run it for like 10 seconds (you can also inspect the belt while it is off). its very easy to do, probably easier than you think. youtube it. the belt isnt that expensive either.

To the OP: I would change the serpentine belt and if you want to do a simple preventive job, replace the idler pulley above the water pump and to the left of the thermostat. You can find plenty of DIY videos on YouTube for this job
Sorry for the dirty engine but I hadn't cleaned it yet, and I did find the oil leak which has been bugging me for 2 years now! It came from the lower side of the oil pressure test port (see the rectangular top caked in oily crud just above the tensioner)

cheap part? It cost me nearly as much as a new water pump. Around $380 equivalent. Water pump was $403 but reduced to $350 as it was a factory reconditioned unit. All told I spent around $1000 just on parts to repair the oil leaks, squeaks and preventive maintenance.

Yeah, probably change bearing, axle, rotor and pulley. Plus a nice polish. I'm 100% for sustainable products when possible. Look at the photo below. It looks brand new to me...

To the OP:
I would also investigate a possible bearing on it's way out in the alternator. They do also die...

Would a bad alternator bearing cause my car not to start when I don't drive it for two days? Cause that would make sense then

possibly... i would say get your battery/alternator tested. they do it here at all the local parts stores for free. the other thing i would suggest is you check the codes on your car with sds or some other system that reads mb ecu.

Definitely not belt. Bearing in a pulley somewhere like others said. Alternator, tensioner, etc. Take the belt off and turn them by hand.
run it with the ac off to see if it goes away. Pray it's not the ac compressor.

well if it is...
bought a rebuilt compressor from miami compressor for $118. they have a website and also sometimes sell on ebay. these compressors do not come with oil so make sure you get it done somewhere professional and bring them the 8/16 ounces of compressor oil (cant remember if 8 or 16, but it comes in a small container but you really have to make sure you get the right oil- - the compressor should be marked on what kind it uses or you call miami compressor and they will tell you - autopart store tried to sell me the wrong kind)
my AC is working really great now

Heidis are better tasting than Abbas. Have a more flower and mountain grass taste. Mmmmmm....

Nah, don't need them and even if there is some lost power, the torque is still there

The OEM water pump is an SKF, and i only paid $180 AUD for a brand new one in Australia, and couldve got it online for $154 AUD if i wanted to wait a couple days.
The water pump will make squeaky noises when the bushings are rooted, and it should be replaced. When the bushes wear out, the impeller will come into contact with the housing, and it will cause a bit of drag on the belt being so stiff to turn.
The idler pulley cant really be swapped out with the radiator in place unless you remove the water pump. You could cut the bolt and use a piece of threaded rod with a nut on the end, but itll look obvious.
The tensioner is probably fine, just replace the pulley unless you know the tensioner has had the dick. I had almost 280,000klms on my W210 E55 and original tensioner was still perfectly fine.
