E550 Ownership Experience
Hi,
I’m considering the purchase of a certified 2014 W212 E550 (Sedan), and was hoping owners of this model would share their experience with this car.
Specifically, I am interested in the following areas:
It’s been many years since I had my Merc (W123), and appreciate any advice you can offer on these newer Mercs.
Thanks,

Specifically, I am interested in the following areas:
- Fuel Economy, what are you getting on your E550?
- Maintenance, have you had any major issues with the 4.7 V8 or the car in general?
- Distronic Plus, is your car equipped with this feature? If so, do you like it? In my experience, many of the E550s are missing this option.
- Would you buy this car again?

I just drove home and got 28 mpg; higher than expected, but I had no traffic.
The 4.7TT has been rock solid my whole time owning it. My only maintenance issue has been brake disks; I'd had the fronts replaced twice within a year, which was covered under warranty, but now my rear disks are warped.
Distronic has been a non issue; after trying it just to see, I've never used it since.
Absolutely I'd buy this car again!

I have 2014 E550 with about 30,000 miles. I have had two things replaced under warranty - the front rotors and a steering column switch. Fuel economy with this car varies - around town it is is not economical but on the highway I have also seen 28 mpg.
I would not hesitate to buy the car again. It is just so smooth and the engine is wonderful. It just wants to go and go and go.

Thanks iGeorge, and Munich77 for the information.
This is really surprising, and encouraging.
According to the E550’s trip computer I test drove, the car was getting 15MPG!!!! Which is significantly less than the EPA rating of 18-24; and, the 20 MPG Car and Driver observed on their road test.
Do you guys have an idea of your overall combined MPG?
Per other forums, the rotors seem to frequently warp on this car.
Any ideas why?
I noticed on my test drive the car likes to hold on to higher gears when decelerating, and the salesman even said, “in these cars you really need to down shift to slow the car down.”

2014 E63S; AMS 100 octane ecu tune; edok tcu tune; BB intakes; dyno tuned
It's real easy to drive the e550 hard so that will easily drop your combined mpg
the e550 is a beast of a car -- do not hesitate! Buy it
get distro if you can but it should not be a deal breaker if you find a great car
the engine is solid

Normally I get about 22-24 mpg in normal life; only when I'm on a road trip do I typically see 28 or higher; I'm still trying to wrap my head around last night. I'm at a loss about the disks for 2012 and newer 550's, but I have a suspicion; the 2012's supposedly had largess disks than the 2011's, but the air dam vents don't route air to the brakes, they route them to the casings for the turbos, so perhaps the brakes are handling a higher heat load, despite being larger. I have no idea why my rear disks are warped though. When I find out, I'll post.

- I've seen as high as 34mpg in the trip computer, but averaged probably 28 on that tank. All highway. My normal 50/50 combined is about 19-20, but since I got mine tuned I'm seeing about 17-18 combined. And I'm pretty heavy footed lol
- Put oil and gas in it and go! So far
- N/A for me
- Absolutely, and probably wouldn't add/remove the features either. (only have Parktronic without Assist, Lighting package, and a few minor things... P2 basically)
