Hi, new member, Looking for some advice

Put a new set on tyres on the rear recently, and now the car feels floaty?? steering feels as if the back end is bouncy, and steering very light under normal driving

I had to brake hard recently in a straight line(from 100ish), and the car was allover the place.

It actually feels unsafe to drive.

Any thoughts on why this has happened? Surely has to have something to do with new tyres.

What tires did you put on? Tires can feel very different from each other. Did you change any of the specs/dimensions of the new tires? Wider tire but same rim width may cause some issues etc. If you kept everything exactly the same as you had before in terms of setup then check with the installer maybe they messed something.

Hello,

I put a different brand on back from front, changed nothing with specs, i am going to put 2 new fronts on, see how it feels then. went from being great fun to drive, to downright frightening.

Check the load rating for the tires, they need to be "MO" which is about 96 I think. Someone here recently went through the same thing.

But what actual tires did you install?

Tires make a huge difference and I'm betting on the fact that someone installed some floaty all seasons, or squishy summer.

This also could be the problem, I sent my wife to get them, assuming she would get like for like(continental i think) but got a cheap set. I assumed it wouldnt really make a difference? I used to run my E92 M3 on cheap rears with no problems?

Michelin PSS/PS4 or similar as long as the load rating is adequate (it's written on the sidewall). It makes a difference. Don't ever cheap out on tires for these cars. They're important.

Go check your tires, since your wife got you a cheap set of tires, they might be cheap off brand all season tires.

Maybe if you could post the brand name of the actual tires, the members on this board and their respective wives will know better next time its time for a tire switch.

Conti DWS - love them on my car. Excellent dry grip - tires also depend greatly on what you are doing with the car (turn freak/road racer, occasional spirited runs, best wet grip etc.). I wanted a great dry grip tire that lasted long so went with DWS.

Please don't take offense to this, but do you really like that tire? I had DWS on my E46 M3, and I hated that tire. It was soft, and utterly sloppy. Heck, even the DW's are known to have very, very soft sidewalls.

Have you ever driven your C63 on a summer tire, a good one like a PSS/RS3?

Just curious as I think you'd be thrilled if you did.

the only decent continentals are contiprocontact for all season and contisport contact - but even then they arent what i'd call great.

so op what tires are you using? you never answered just said different brand front to back. did you get an alignment too? Always keep in mind the whole point of the c63 - its not practical and neither are it's tires or tire life for that matter. If you want a car that makes sense and is cheap to own go get a prius. As badass as a c63 is, it is still limited by physics.... the only thing it uses that touch the ground are the tires. All the performance specs are vastly altered based on tire choice. Even the best brakes and suspension in the world are useless with crappy tires. just some food for thought

Go put a PSS or PS4S on your car and you'll hate the contis and be mad they are on there in the first place.

The continental DWS is an all season tire, similar to Michelin A/S tires. Jack of all trade tires, great at none. Continentals are notorious for having soft sidewalls and developing sidewall bubbles if you live in a pothole ridden city. The DW drives better than the DWS tires. That's one of the reasons why I use Goodyears F1's for my 19's. They have ridiculously hard sidewalls to offer a little added protection for my wheels.

PSS's are definitely great tires, but I also like the Goodyears. The joys of going through 3 sets of rears for every 1 set of fronts allow me to try out lots of brands.

I've used the DW's and they offer very good grip.

i think it also depends on the car the tires are used. I loved hankook V12's on my Audi but hated the same tire on the C63.
I have Conti DWS on my Audi currently and they are amazing but not sure if I will like them as much on the C63.

My car came with DWS. I feel it does very well in rain, but they could barely move it up in my driveway in snow/slush.
These and even more the DW are lightweight tires, there are advantages to a light tire.
The DWS fit my usage of the car for now, eventually I'll have a separate summer set of wheels, I'll keep these for winter, so I just replaced the fronts with DWS06, a design that is now different, it doesn't have the side curb shield strip, it's just a flat sidewall. Subjectively the thread seems wider too.

I have these on one of my wheel sets for my Sti, they seem to have the highest resistance to hydroplaning with that car, they're not bad overall with it.
