Parts confirmation for overflow coolant tank

Hi,

I have a slight leak at the coolant overflow tank at the tubr area. Not sure what had happened to it... but there is a silicon patch repair there that's not exactly working ... so kinda thinking of just replacing it. The tank is pretty straight forward, but the hose... i am assuming its the overflow hose is number (14) in the picture attached? and not the upper hose (8)?

Just wanted to confirm this. thank you!!

Btw... does MB need some special coolant i'm reading there are some specifically made for them?

The coolant reservoir is very easy to replace. There are two hoses: a small overflow hose that attaches to the nipple on the side of the tank, and the return hose (#14) on the bottom. You do need to use coolant compatible with the system. One that is readily available is Zerex G-05.

Thanks Rodney! Strangely Autozone here doesn't carry zerex... I managed to get a pentefrost? I guess they should be able to be mixed?

There is one more thing.. there's a black metal looking thing in front of the overflow tank. It seems to be leaking too... Do you know what is that?

That's the overflow hose. It's a common source of leaks. You need to replace the overflow reservoir. It;s under $40:

Rodney, I meant the cylindrical shaped thing with the electronic cable thats beside the overflow hose. I can't figure it out from the diagram in the link. Is that part of the reservoir? The reservoir does come with a holder area for that...

Oh, that's the recirculation pump. It's used when you have either the REST option or the heated windshield washer fluid reservoir option. Or you sure it's leaking? The reason I ask is that I thought mine was on the C240 and it turned out to be the seal on the reservoir between the light and dark sections.

Oh! REST Option?

I don't see the option for heated windshield washer as part of the initial purchase by the first owner...

Actually i am not sure whether that is leaking or its just coming out of the hose area from the expansion tank. That's something i'm trying to figure out before getting the parts. I am seeing wetting around the lower ring, i'll try and take a picture of the thing.

Maybe after the expansion tank has been replaced i'll check again.

Thanks Rodney!

REST is a button on the climate control panel that lets you run the cabin fan to keep it warmed with residual heat after the engine has been shut off.

Found a better angle... Funny thing is the picture looks even similar with the wetting i see there. I think maybe i should replace the expansion tank first before looking at replacing this.

And i didn't even know i had heated wiper water lol.... MB thinks of everything don't they!...

Hmmm but its connected to the coolant... Is there a coolant pump? I don't see it in the parts illustration...

It pumps coolant into the windshield washer reservoir (a separate chamber - it doesn't mix).
