while driving around in manual, trans switches to sport ? wtf?

So just noticed this today when i was buzzing around town. while in M, seems like every time i accelerate in 2nd once i get off the gas the trans switches to S. Was able to replicate this multiple times by accelerating to like 4.5/5k rpms and while decelerating it switches into S.....

this just started happening, havent had a chance to try different gears, figured i would see if anyone else had this issue. 06 cls 55, 722.6 trans, with EC tcu tune 20k miles ago.

will try trans reset while im at work as well and see if it changes.

anyone hear of this kind of issue or have any insight on whats going on.?

thanks

Mine will downshift on it's own when I come to a stop and the car is in manual mode.

sigh........ read, people, read not referring to downshifting.

im in manual mode, M, and when decelerating in 2nd, still in Manual mode, the car on its own switches out of M and into Sport mode ( S ).

Press the button to get back into M so that i can do the shifting with the paddles/shifter and was able to replicate the issue another handful of times where the trans would switch over from Manual mode to sport.

Ive put 35k miles on this thing and have never had an issue with it changing transmission modes on its own till now.

Also im not redlining the car, talking about a 2nd gear pull from 2k to about 4/4.5k rpms and letting the engine slow the car down in between stop signs.

You'll need a new engine oil sensor if the issue returns.

Is that really correlated with the transmission somehow?

I'm only assuming that if the transmission fluid temperature gets to a certain temperature because of exuberate driver, then it shifts itself to a sport mode for self preservation.

I only say that, because I've heard of this happening before to someone. This occurs either by holding certain gears in manual mode too long, that the trans fluid gets to hot, and by shifting to sports mode allow the fluid to cool, because your going thru the full range of gears. Not saying that you can't hold certain gears either in Sport or Comfort mode because you can.

so im guessing this is what i want?

http://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Inf...VSVSI=3736.htm

the problem has gotten much worse too, drove 200 miles on the highway over the weekend for a wedding and the car wouldnt even switch into manual mode at times or would immediately switch back to Sport. i would be in 5th gear for a few minutes just driving normal and when i would look down at the cluster it was back in drive.

I prefer driving in M mode because in Sport its downshifting more gears than need be, or upshifting when i would like it to stay in a gear, especially on the highway i dont need the car switching down 2 or 3 gears to pass someone at part throttle.

Wouldn't a trans tune fix all of this?

EDIT: Nevermind I didn't read

Is it a good idea to replace this sensor preventatively? Any other indicators it's going bad?

The photos in that thread were photos I took when I replaced my oil sensor back in August of 2015. At that point in time, there were literally only a handful of those sensors in the country but it was the part number shown for my VIN.
EDIT: EPC shows that A 006 153 59 28 (sender unit, oil level contactor) is still correct for my VIN.

Mine was providing erroneous messages that my car had no oil. No moving parts in the sensor to the best of my knowledge so I have no idea why it failed. But it sure cost a lot more than a plain old dipstick.

I was looking at the photos in that other thread thinking, "Those tools look just like mine." and scratching my head. Went back into my maintenance records and those were the photos I took to document my work. Gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling to know I can assist others...

+1.

I've always had good experience with Pelican Parts and one of their competitors. Professionals who are good to work with. But Pelican Parts has those awesome "How to" guides with lots of photos.
