2003 E240 W211 - Noise Help

Hello everyone,

I own a 2003 E240 W211 and currently experiencing an issue which I am hoping that I could get some help on.

Every time I turn the ignition off there is a noise that seems to come from around the back of the radio / dashboard central speaker area which lasts for about a second. I have tried resetting the radio by taking off the radio fuse and the noise still occurs. I have also tried taking the 6 CD Changer fuse out and the central gateway and the noise is still there.

Link to the noise at the end of the video:

Any ideas on were the problem could be?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

"May" be actuator motor. See attachments if you want to remove center air section to investigate.

Thank you for your reply.

Would I have to remove the complete top part of the dashboard to get to it?

According to WIS, yes. This is why I suggested removing center nozzle first to better identify noise. In addition to info previously posted, follow link and see attachments.

konig is correct. Depending on which stepper motor dash may or may not need to be removed. You won't know which one though unless you actuate them individually or do a self test. There are alot of them in that dashboard, i would highly suggest you not guess at which one it is and pay diag time to precisely decipher which one is defective.

I believe our car actuates a servo (s) in the dash when the key is inserted as well, but there is no clicking sound associated with it. Just a gentle buzzing sound for a second or two. Sounds like yours has a clicking sound also that may be a blend door sticking or coming up against a mechanical stop?

Correction. stepper motors move when CGW is woken up or when it goes to sleep.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but have a slight cicking sound and STAR states:

9398 communication error of AC bus with component M2/8 (left defroster flap)
95B8 M2/12 Left center vent air flap actuator motor
95C0 M2/13 Right center vent air flap actuator motor

I've stripped the dash top off to examine but they appear to be working OK, also looking at the diagram of each motors location I cant see how I'd replace them.

If you have not already done so reassemble 'check refrigerant' and clear codes before progressing.
