I need more snap, crackle, pop

As the title states, I'm after more of those wonderful, wonderful deceleration pops and gurgles. Currently, I have a res delete with straight pipes and the sound is great and I do get some nice pops...I just want more.

I've searched and scoured this website and YouTube for hours on end about different exhaust setups and their characteristics, but nothing really gave way to achieving those pops and gurgles. And most of the threads/videos are for c63s and w211s.

My only option is to do a second cat delete (can't afford headers) and I'm SO torn between deleting those with either straight pipe or xpipe. I'm worried that straights the whole way will give that sloppy old American v8 sound and possibly lose low end torque, and then xpipe would pretty much negate my straight res delete and smooth everything out.

All in all I'm torn on the decision and was hoping for some insight on setups that you guys run!

Ps..i have a m156

My old w211 picked up a lot of snap & crackle after cat delete, you get that extra unburnt fuel to ignite, but I also did LTH at the same time so who knows.

Dont do a stright pipe all the way back, you lose power and the banks won't be able to balance while also causing the car to shake. Throw a x-pipe in where the secondary cats or stock resonators were, that's where the stock h-pipe is/was located.

Alot of tuners are able to tune that pop effect in more, it's big in the BMW M world known as a burble tune.

Thanks man. I guess I'm more confused about if there's any difference where the xpipe is placed in the exhaust. Like straight pipe second cat and xpipe res and visa versa. Or maybe there's no difference at all I'm just worrying about it too much lol

The noise you’re after comes more from tuning than exhaust set-up.

My second cats are getting replaced with an xpipe once my car comes out of hibernation.

Hoping to get tuned by eurocharged this year. And hopefully they still do their burble/fire tune.

Got my car tuned by Eurocharged after resonator deletes. Much more crackle on down shifts. Well worth it. It was definitely noticeable the second I got in the car.

Perfect!

How’d the car feel in general after the tune?

You’ll notice a big difference in the shift points. Especially the downshifts. So much more crackle on the downs. Better get up, but let’s be honest, I tune isn’t a turbo or supercharger. It was worth the money I spent, but I got the hook up. I’d still do it for full price though

Keep us posted after you delete your 2nd cat.

Curious if anyone with 2014 and up deleted their 2nd cat?

No they don’t theyre actually very quiet stock. I wanna make my m157 crackle and pop, while not having it insanely loud and keeping the cats (california life). Im also skeptical about this burble tune everyone is talking about? Doesnt that just dump fuel so you can get that unburnt fuel into the exhaust amd have it crackle and pop like that? If that’s the case, i cant do that to my car since i wanna keep my cats and not have them get messed up by all that unburnt fuel. Any suggestions? Im also thinking of eisenmann mufflers paired with a resonator delete x pipe, does anyone know what type of sound that will make? Will i get crackles?

OE Tuning has an option on their tunes to offer more snap crackle and pop.

like chiro said its from the tune. not the lack of a 2nd cat. if you want more pops and burbles get the burble tune. if you really want good sounding pops and burbles the best bet is to go catless

Thank you so much! I needed this! Have you had any experience with this tune yourself?

Yup I have it on mine and I'm also catless I love the sound but my burbles and pops are set up pretty minor compared to others. A lot of my friends with BMW have burble tune on their cars too but a lot of people hate on the burble/pop tune so it just depends on preference

Burble tunes are something I'd expect on beat Honda, not a Mercedes.

I always find it hillarious when people say stuff like this. Have you heard any of the new AMG or M cars? even RS they burble and pop from the factory so yeah obviously your taste is outdated. Besides I dont think any hondas come with that.

You're drawing a comparison where there is none. Burble tunes take popping to an extreme. I could make my old WRX blow a pop and throw fireballs at will on a previous tune. Mufflerless cars tent to pop more, even from the factory (look at old SRT-4s). But burble tunes are just obnoxious and tacky. Which is where I was going with my previous comment: it's just something I'd expect to see on a ratty car.
