2018 E400 Sedan
Your Opinion - E400 Sport or Luxury?
I'm ordering a 2018 E400 sedan soon and I'm trying to decide between Luxury Line (167) or the Sport Styling (327).
Any thoughts/opinions? Which is the popular choice and why???

Yes, the standard rims on the Luxury line are terrible. And in the US the standard is 17inch which looks too small for the car. You can upgrade to 18inch, but it's the same exact style rim. Luxury line is more rare, but I would go with the Sport line because of looks. As Andre Agassi once said, "Image is everything."

Personally I think the luxury line is a much better looking car than the sport. It looks more like a smaller version of the S class. My problem is that it is too soft and floaty for my driving.

Luxury. Smoother ride, and I like the star on the hood . We've had four Luxury and one (and only) Sport, a 2009. The Sport had a harder ride than we like, the tire sizes are staggered so they can't be rotated, and it ate the first set of tires in less than 20,000 miles. We are both gentle drivers and typically get 40,000 miles or more on a set of tires. Our fifth Luxury, a 2018 E300, is on the ship sailing south from Halifax, should be at Walter's in Riverside early December.

Luxury / Exclusive! It's a Mercedes E-Class. The idea of a taxi being a sports car is laughable.
I remember when the 2017 E's first arrived at the local dealer. I went to the dealership, walked right past the Sport E sitting on the showroom floor and asked the sales guy when the E-Classes were going to arrive. I completely walked past the E, thinking it was a C.
Your profile doesn't say where you are located, BUT the US spec Luxury line also gives you top-stitched doors and dashboard, and metal door lock pins vs. plastic ones, which is something you'd have to pay $4,900 more to get otherwise via the Nappa Leather option. Having driven both, the stitched dash/doors really raises the perceived quality of the interior. Also, with the run-flats, the comfort suspension is definitely appreciated. I didn't notice that much of a difference between the regular comfort suspension & air suspension though.

Here's a good quality video of the Luxury line. The unattractive wheels in the video are the upgraded 18" but the design is the same as the standard 17" in the US.

Hands down, go Luxury! These are luxury sedans and I just don’t get people who try to make them look aggressive and sporty. The Luxury cars, IMO, look so much nicer, ride way better and just have an overall classy, luxurious look to them.

Has anyone here ever put the 19" twin spoke AMG wheels on a Luxury/Exclusive trim spec car? I remember just days before the car was officially unveiled there was a silver E (with very light camo) on a flatbed tow truck with those wheels and it clearly had the Luxury package. But I've never seen a photo/video of one equipped as such since that video.

I have a sport W212 but would go with the luxury on the W213. It just seems a better fit for that design, IMO.

I went for the sport trim for several reasons including better brakes. That said, the luxury grill simply feels outdated to me. I've had it on all my cars since the 1960's except for the occasional SL's I've owned. The sport grill seems to be fresher on the sedan.

If one takes their car to the track, I can see it, but on public roads and highways, virtually nobody, anywhere at anytime—at least in the USA, needs more than what the Luxury model provides in the way of grip and handling. If they do, then they are way into breaking all sorts of traffic laws and are putting everyone in their path at risk, especially themselves.
Let’s face it: the Sports Packages, bigger wheels, swoopy body panels, all the AMG this & AMG that are ALL about looks and posing and a way for MB to make tons of extra money, selling us things that are less comfortable and, in 99.9% of the time, are never, ever needed or put to good use. Obviously, this is all just my opinion.

To each his own. I like a car that has a firm suspension, that does not bend too much in corners. I do not like cars that float. If I had a choice, I would have the luxury trim in the E43.

I'm with Streamliner on this one. I'm curious about some of these claims... Better brakes, "better driving", ?
From what information I have, both the Sport/Avantgarde and Luxury/Exclusive lines have the exact same brakes. To get different brakes, you'd need to go to an AMG, wherein you have upgraded brakes, and I believe the option for even ceramic brakes. Although if you're truly interested in stopping performance, the money is better spent on tires than brakes. What these cars ship with is far more than necessary, usually more than the stock tires could ever handle.
As far as driving performance, the smaller rim/increased sidewall = reduced noise, better efficiency, a smoother ride, less chance of damaging a tire/rim, less chance of curb rash. Given that this car uses run-flats, all of these benefits are needed. The Luxury / Exclusive line is supposed to have a softer suspension. Having only driven the W212 Sport/Luxury side-by-side, I can tell you that the difference for these was minimal, if noticeable at all. The tire & rims made more of a difference than the suspension tuning.

Again that is YOUR preference. I am not trying to sell you on MY preference. Really, I wouldn't have either one. That is why my wife and I bought the E43.
