New owner of 2018 c300 1.5 mo old already in dealership and applied for lemon
New owner of 2018 c300 got the car dec 20th 2017.
To make the long story short, i am posting this to let you guys know that on my new p.o.s. car the fumes from the engine bay that smelled like hot plastic and crayon made myself and my wife so sick that we took the car in for the dealer to look at. It also had other problems such as hood open warning randomly appearing, car not starting with fault codes being thrown, interior parts popping off... what a car.
my wife got so sick from the fumes she actually threw up after driving for 1.5 hours.. and at that point i said enough is enough. Who knows what kind of carcinogens are coming into the car?!!
the dealer acknowleged the fume issue and i was told that THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN OUTfor the simillar issue.
and my one and a half month old car is going through a tear down process of the whole fron instrument panel, cebter console, seats and carpets to plug up the holes.
ARE U KIDDING ME??
i requested through mb usa to take the car back for full refund and they have the nerve to tell me that it is not guaranteed that would be done.
If you guys are having the similar fume/odor issue. Have them check it out. This is just unacceptable

Sorry to gear you have problems.
if it reassures you, my experience is that things can be sorted out and dealers are quite good at this.
modern cars are problematic due to their complexity.
ive had many issues esp with German cars over the years.

Thanks for your reply.
i hope we can get rid of the car soon.
i have had bmw 328 & porsche 987.2 and none of them really gave me troubles...
this one though....
i just hope no one has to go through this.
i just wanted to get the word out so other members can take proactive steps, instead of breathing in what could be toxins.

I live in California. My first mb c400 bought in 2015 of January was a lemon.. I was one of the first w205 owners. The car literally broke down in the freeway the next day. Dealership tried to fix it for about 4-5 days then it broke down again on my way home coming from the Mb service lol. Called MBUSA reported the incident and took me about a month to get full refund plus additional few hundred bucks $500 usd more or less i don't know what it is exactly for maybe for inconvenience. Plus loaner car for about a month. It was so stressful for me considering it was my first Mb but a long the way it turned out "a blessing in this guise" i had another c400 from a different dealership with more option with less than $110 usd monthly amortization

The new MB are becoming computers on wheels rather then Cars with electronics from periods before. It's a demand now from almost all devices used in daily life. I prefer having a basic interior but a strong powerful reliable engine unbreakable transmission than a huge display screen that can show in stag ram photos at higher pixels. But nowadays the interior and gadgets is what gets the consumer to buy these crap cars rather than the craftsmanship under the hood. But in essence all C, CLA, GLA i wouldn't touch rather buy a used E550 sedan or something else.

Saying the 4 cylinder is a piece of crap is like saying a Swiss wrist watch is a lousy clock. The 4 is excellent for what it is designed to do,which is to deliver the best attainable power to fuel economy ratio per liter of displacement. If you are cognizant of the fact that MB and all car companies are global, meaning that the vehicles are designed to be marketed in other countries where fuel (petrol in this case) is not abundant nor is it plentiful. I was in France last year and can tell you there are not gas stations on every corner (selling lotto and cheetos) like here in the US. Also most vehicles there were manual transmission (even the tour buses) presumably for the fuel economy and often times the terrain and tight hilly corners. So I think the design of the engine is to stay in step with the times per say. That being said of course I would agree that the immediate response and better low end torque of a larger displacement engine with more cylinders is more satisfying in most situations. At freeway or spirited backroad speeds the 2.0 and the 7 or 9 speed trans (I've driven both mine is a 15 my current loaner is an 18) deliver very well for their intended purpose. Sometimes on an engineers paper, things look better than they work in real life- I get that. Case in point my 2008 C300 with the 3.0 and 7 speed felt like a happier combo to me than my 2014 C300 with the factory detuned 3.5 and 7 speed. I'm not defending the 2.0 but it is fast becoming the standard displacement with a turbo for optimal fuel/power performance. Look at The new Alfa- Romeo Stelvio with their 2.0 making 280 HP coupled to an 8 speed auto. 5.8 seconds 0 to 60 in an attractive SUV-(Nice vehicle by the way- check it out). Again designed for a Global market including US of course. Just food for thought here.

Thank you all for your replies.
achan123, my service advisor told me about this service bulletin in regards to the fumes coming in. I will try to get a copy of this when i go to see him next time so that i can post it here, To let others know that this has to be fixed.
Just be prepared to have the whole front interior to be torn down. Sigh........
it has been about 10 days since the car was dropped off. And mb usa tells me they will get back to me in regards to buying the car back. Anyone have experience with lemon cars?
do i get all the money refunded?

Update
mercedes has agreed to repurchase the car. I guess they know that this is a serious problem.
it took about 6 wks for them since the car was originally brought in to repair the issues. Which they used ALUMINUM TAPE!! to seal off the fumes after tearing down the whole front cabin. Again WITH TAPE!!
Needless to say, the engine bay fumes are still coming in. My throat still hurts everytime i drive this **** car.
i took out a 2018 e300 as loaner to test it out, though much better sorted than the c300 still not as good as i hoped...
Anyways, i wanted everyone with the fume issue to know that you CAN complain for this issue.

This is month 3 of my mother-in-law's hand me down and I've learned leaving the AC on all the time with recirculate button has mostly work.
Also I just bought a Philips GoPure Compact 200 Car Air Purifier to "eliminates up to 99% of harmful gases, smoke, bacteria, odors, dust, pollen, pet hair, and other particles from the vehicle".
