Strange Clunking, how to pinpoint??

I have a 2014 GL450

For the past few weeks I've noticed a strange clunking, seems like its coming from the front right hand part of the car.

Its happens quite a but but I just cannot locate it. It feels suspension related too me. With that said I've changed the sway bars and undone everything and re-tightened them, control arms, steering knuckle, even the engine mounts. I've also checked for anything loose not suspension related.

Not sure if it would help taking it to a tire/shock place that has a lift.

Would welcome any suggestions

Do you notice it through the steering wheel? Or just a noise coming from the right front?

I dont notice it through the steering wheel, I can just hear this clunk, clunk coming from the front (probably not more than one a minute and hardly ever if on a straight smooth road). I checked all the steering, tie rod ends etc all seems tight.

May have to see if I can find a shop with a rolling road that they can lift in the air, the clunks are quite random but if I turn the wheel ard I can reproduce it. I still dont think its steering related, its just when I yank the wheel that the weight shifts which helps the clunk appear (if that makes sense)

SOLVED!!!

I clambered under car and pushed and pulled everywhere, then realized I could feel a little play in the right hand driveshaft. This was the shaft that is attached to the intermediate shaft which goes into the transfer case.

Ordered another, it arrived today. Fitted and the noise is gone. Silence is golden, hope this helps someone

well I have a picture of the driveshaft here, but be aware, yours could be a different problem, sway bar link etc. My problem was the main driveshaft had too much play between it and the intermediate shaft (also in the picture) when I pulled the main bar I could hear it thump.

Im having similar problem on my 2013 GL450, that I have discovered during the recent oil change. I noticed that my passenger side half axle/cv axle outer boot has small tare and its leaking grease. I have purchased replacement boot but I never preformed a removal of cv axle on a Mercedes. How difficult is the job? I would greatly appreciate if you could post some directions on how to complete the job, and most defiantly the torque specs.

He replaced the half-shaft/cv-axle not a drive shaft as stated in previus post.
