113 Oil consumption
How frequently does you car ask for oil?
I topped mine off before taking a 1200 mile trip. Now it wants 1-1/2 quarts.
I will confess to dusting off a Mustang with a 120 mph pull but other than that I behaved myself.

How often do you change the oil? Have you ever used any oil additives? What kind of oil are you using?
The 112/113 engines had issues with sticking rings causing oil consumption issues. Most of the time, you could get away with using a can of BG MOA every few oil changes and it would help things. However, Mercedes does say that the engine can consume something like a quart of oil every 2000 miles and still be within normal operating conditions.

I use the 5-40 bulk oil at the dealership. I've owned the car for 5 months and 8,000 miles so I do not know the recent history. I just opened an RO on it to do an A service this afternoon.
I know that some 113s use a bit of oil but not quite this much. I haven't bothered the techs about it yet.

Naturally, I went over that stuff. It had a slight drip just after I bought it but that was from the rear drain plug.
For the record, I've been throwing parts at Mercedes techs longer than these cars have been in the market. I know 113s tend to consume oil. We don't see enough C/CLK/SLK 55s to get a good feel for the higher mileage/age oil consumption. In fact, we seldom get 113s these days. Those cars were far more common in the other store I worked at.

Just get a can of MOA or BG EPR from the BG guy when he stops by next time and use that.. You know what the MOA stuff is, but the EPR stuff is used the day you do the oil change.. Add cold, warm up and then do an oil change.. Either one will help the car out.

I was going to add a can of MOA to see if it does anything. I haven't stuck my scope in the plug hole to see what the bores look like.
I don't remember your shop name from my wholesale days at PP and I don't see your name coming up in the MB Plano system. I assume you use WorldPac when you can. Who do you use for dealer parts?

Sorry, accidently did a double post.
Needing to add a quart or so every 1200 to 1500 miles is within MB specs for the 113 motor.
Tolerances on this engine are not as tight as other motors in order to increase longevity, so some do use oil more frequently than other MB motors.
My C55 does not use any oil no matter how much I baby or punch it, but my CLK when driven hard does ask for a top-off now and then. Comes with the territory with the 113 motor.
The trade off is they are very reliable and pretty much bomb-proof when properly maintained.

Just for reference. I am on my 4th m113 and without a leak my cars never ask for oil. That is with changes ranging form 5k to 7k.

They use a lot of oil, I usually put in a quart a month and I have had 2 C55s which both did about the same. 1500 miles a month I keep a box in my trunk. My oil light is on right now actually.

My c43 never had this oik consumption with the stock 4.2 m113 and now with the ml55 5.4 m113 seap it still doesnt consume oil.
i wonder how bad a valve cover gasket and rear main seal leak effect oil consumption because most ppl have a leak.
when I bought my car from a forum member here he said it never had oil consumption problem. Five k miles later my car is asking to add a qt and a half oil. I do have a pretty decent rear main leak and I think valve cover gaskets are starting to go too.
im having this fixed by my friend who is a certified mb tech and has worked on hundreds of amgs. I will talk to him about it

It's not going to be the valve cover and rear main seal leak/seep causing the oil consumption unless you are leaving a trail of oil as you drive. Oil consumption on these engine is going to be from the piston rings, crankcase ventilation, or possibly a top end cylinder head or valve issue.

I dont understand why people are denying the fact that an oil leak will result in your car telling you your oil is low lol.
I mean come on....are we really discussing this?
Let a qt of water drip slightly for a week and see how fast it drains. Im not even talking about stirring it around the bottle under immense pressure and temperature......just let it drip.
Again. I have another car thats on its second m133(swap) and there was never oil consumption so the argument that its normal on these motors doesn't make sense to me.

Your point?
I was working the parts counter and one of the kids volunteered to do the job. I stepped out there when he pulled it in to make sure he dropped the cover to find the front drain plug.
Some of the young guys still have ambition and like AMG cars even if they're a bit long in the tooth.
I've been working Mercedes parts for 15 years. You think I don't know how these things work?
