My First GTR Flat Tire...

Had a nice surprise as I left for the gym yesterday. Low pressure warning light, showing 15 pounds in the driver's rear. Filled it up and went about my business. This morning 10 pounds down. Turns out there is a screw in it, and it can't be patched or whatever. I expected as much. MB says to replace both tires at a cost of $462.00 each - same price as tire rack basically. Will take a week to get them and the bill out the door will most likely be around $1200.00 for everything - ouch. Not near as bad as a Bugatti Veyron. Those tires are 10K each and you have to replace both as well.

Sorry to hear, I HATE road debris that enjoy making themselves comfortable in a tire and ruining ones day.
How many miles on current tires? I ask as that could save you from needing 2, I know what they suggest, but.....
And correct call on patching, never patch a tire for a GT car type application.

Around 3,500 miles. At least I got some wear out of them.

Roll on by Tire Discounter and see if they will patch/plug it.

They gave an exellent reputation and will err on the side of safety too. But I have found that they will repair when the dealer won’t.

Regards

Save the spare. If you get another flat that can't be patched you may be able to use the one you save.

The dealership is wrong. Michelin states that the Sport Cup 2’s can be repaired as long as the ‘screw’ isn’t too big; is within the main part of the tread and isn’t close, (within 1”) of the sidewall.

Just take it to a high quality tyre shop and have it ‘plug-patched’.

Done

Yes - that was exactly right - thank you. I still bent over for a new pair. Bothered me enough not to want a patched tire on this new and expensive of a car. However for the future, I saved the two and next time (hopefully not) I will have two spares and am going to get the one with the screw plugged/patched. Here is a pic of it. Not like anyone hasn't seen a screw in a tire before. But thought I'd post the pic anyways. Also, the car does run a lot more compliant at 32 psi cold. It was and came with 40 psi cold. That's been changed as well.

That looks like a side wall. That tire is toast!

Agree with Bish. The integrity of the tire has been compromised.

I can’t really tell exactly where and how far from the beginning of the sidewall the screw is. But if it’s greater than 1”-1 1/2” I would be 100% confident of the integrity of the tyre if it was plug/patched correctly.

Now would I run it WOT on a road course? No.

Looks like the nail is in the sidewall.

I included external pics of the screw for a better angle and measured. Some said it was too close to the sidewall. I think it's fine at 3-inches to be repaired.

Take it back, those photos show it's not in the sidewall. Good call keeping both tires as spares.

That will be a safe plug.

If the puncture was over on the sidewall where that raised ring is at the right edge of your ruler then NO PLUG!!

seems like a big waste of money to me, why spend $1200 for no reason, all it needed was a $10 plug

Not necessarily. I will get the one tire fixed. So when I do need new rear tires. I will use these.

Ok. Flat tire. Replaced . Move on.

Can’t wait til you post on your next adventure

I have discovered a nail in my 500km GTR today. Let’s see what the tire shop says tomorrow. 😭

Worried that this will happen to me sooner rather than later, since there are houses on either end of my street being constructed atm.

That is exactly what I am dealing with. My neighborhood has a ton of new homes building as of now and I do drive through industrial park often enough to make the risk even higher. Hope this will be a plug/patch, fingers crossed 🤞
