A while back I got an email offer for a deal on 4 new tires through the dealer mounted with 150 off. The tire choices included the tires I would most likely want to put on it, the Conti DWS 06 for 664 fully installed. That beats Tire rack with shipping and local install by a bit. The question I have though is about switching rims and TPMS. My existing rims are the staggered 18" and I am going to go to a set of 17" OEM take offs that I have had in storage now for about 3 years. Since this car is a 2010, the original sensors are 7 going on 8 years old and could be nearing their demise due to old batteries. I haven't called the dealer yet to find out what they would charge for new sensors, but I'm thinking it wont be pretty. I can get a set of OE compatible sensors from Amazon for about 40 each or 160 for the set and just mount them in the 17" rims and just show up for the appointment with the new rims in the back seat and trunk. Does that sound like a decent plan? Anybody ever dealt with a dealer for new tires and TPMS units that could chime in on cost?

I'm planning on doing similar as im planning on getting a summer set up on my car .. eBay has them for as low as 60 bucks for the set of 4.. I'm thinking on going that route ..dealer is not even a option

I think your plan is solid. I would do exact same thing on the TPMS and actually have done that except it was with Discount Tire. Zero issues.

From installation side it couldn't be any easier, saves a dismount from the current set. Get the bare rims out, install tires, balance, done. Any TPMS reset would need to be done regardless of who provides.

Thanks. I did call the dealer and they have scheduled me an appointment for next week. I asked about new sensors and their list price was around 90 each but the parts girl said they are discounted to about 70. Still, Amazon is way cheaper and has two Orotek sensors that work, one for about 35 and one for about 40. The newer tech version, is actually the cheaper of the two and is advertised as being oem compatible with no special setup:

That's not a bad price. I still prefer Costco though, they come with a 5 year road hazard warranty. Got several flats on my old tires so I think it's only a matter of time before I cash in on it. They also include lifetime rotation and balancing of the tires. For the sensors, I had two bad rims and they charged me $15 per tire to take the sensor off the old rim and put it on the new rim. Also see the tread regarding the $130 off $250+ in service. Probably won't work for the parts, but maybe the labor might be up there. Also check with the MB dealer about putting those parts on, lots of places don't like putting on parts supplied by a customer.

I've used the tire rack road hazard coverage and they not only replaced the tire for free they even shaved it to the correct thread depth.

also for what it's worth I swapped a set of wheels that had Conti DWS 06 with about 25k on them and they were very noisy compared to the perellis, with similar mileage, that were on the car. same size tires too.

Tire rack only does a 2 year warranty on road hazard. Costco I believe is 5 years.

I bought a set of TPMS sensors off ebay and the dealer put them on some takeoff rims when I bought tires without issue. The ones I got looked identical to the Mercedes with a MB part number. Dealers can be picky mine wouldn't put 265 tires on my C63 since it was supposed to have 255.
