I'm upgrading from 79 450sl to a later run 560sl. I've seen a couple cars on Hemmings with a "back seat." too small for a human but what affect if any does it have on present/ future value?

Also, I prize maintenance records and original matching parts most but how important is having a complete set of books?

They are a factory option called "kinderseats". I think they are a PIA. There are many more interesting things one can do with that space behind the seats.

I dont care for them either and seem pointless. Any thoughts on what affect they have good or bad on value?

I don't think they affect value of the car at all one way or the other. They may bring a few bucks on ebay.
