AMG E43 SEDAN

Anyone know how the E43 Sedan is banging out more HP & TQ with the same engine as the C43? I mean is it just a boost increase or do they put bigger turbos in that E43 motor also?

The E43 motor is rated at 396hp and the same torque number as the C43 at 384lb ft.

Event though the E sedan is much heavier it is said to be quicker to 60 by a tenth of a second-

so how is Mercedes making the extra HP on the same engine??

The E43 may make a little more power stock, but it is not faster. Here is proof with back to back tests @ 1 mile elevation, so 0 - 60 times are slower: https://youtu.be/YqTksPNPxro

The 2019 C43 is probably using the same turbos. The E43 isn't quicker, Nor as nimble as the C43.

No change from C450 to MY19 C43 in turbo size. Just a different firmware. E43 comes with slightly bigger turbos

The M276 motor is quite over-built. Most of the difference between the C43 and E43 output is just ECU mapping for increased output in the E43. There is conflicting info on the turbos between the two models. It's not clear if the E43 actually uses different turbos than the c43.

It looks like the facelift C43 is just running a same or similar ECU map as the E43 since the power output is identical.

The E43 is a very nice car with some features that are only available in the E class and not available in the C. I have read post from owners over on the AMG PL that the E43 has more typical E-class levels of comfort. I haven't driven one so I can't verify those claims. It really does seem that the E43 is filling the gap that was left when the V8 E550 was retired.

I heard the bigger turbo thing but that would be counterproductive for Mercedes to put bigger more expensive turbos on the same engine for a stated 34 more HP, it would make much more sense to change the MAP settings. I am pretty confident that the E43's engine is running more boost than the stock C43's 12psi, to achieve that 34 stated extra HP- why would you put bigger turbos in the E43 when the motor in the C43 can easily and safely run 15psi?

When it comes to building cars cost is always the bottom line.i.e. "how can we achieve this performance level in the least expensive way possible?"

Car companies do this all of the time by just raising boost in a similar model with the same engine, to achieve more power- especially European car companies.

I guess my point is that the C43 Motor has a lot more "safe" performance potential in it than Mercedes wants us to believe.

Yes I concur, I wonder why they didn't drop in the 7 speed from the C63 in the C43?

Fuel economy and performance I assume.

Having 9 speeds allows engine to be in sweet spot more often.

If I am not mistaken the 9 speed in our cars are faster than 7 speed

Yes that is true, but compared to the 7 speed in the C450, I don't believe the C63 7 speed is the same transmission.

Good post,
" In the Manual mode, the gearbox managed to shift gears in just 100 milliseconds. That is incredibly fast, but the unit also had a comfort mode for day-to-day driving, as well as two sport modes.

The first of them was 20% swifter than the Comfort mode, and the second Sport mode was 20% prompter than the previous. Meanwhile, the Manual mode is an extra 10% quicker than the S+ mode, which was the most rapid automated operating mode of that transmission."

So manual mode would be 10% faster than shifting regulary in sport+?
