MB requirements to release SAM tow program code?
Have been following the threads here to install a factory hitch on my 2012 GL 350. I installed the OEM hitch and wiring harness and took it to the dealer to get the SAM reprogrammed for towing. Dealer has been unable to reprogram the SAM and just told me that the problem is that Mercedes-Benz won’t release the reprogramming code until certain requirements are met.
They said that to release the code, 2 relays must be installed, which I’ve heard mentioned here, and that I must have a receipt showing a larger size radiator is installed. I have not heard anything of a larger radiator as part of adding a hitch since everything I’ve read on the forums here say that all GLs since about 2008 (upgraded SAM) come with all tow-ready hardware off the factory line.
Does anybody have any experience with this new Mercedes-Benz requirement for a larger radiator for getting the SAM module reprogrammed?

the tow package for the x164 does not include larger radiator or tranny cooler or anything mechanical in nature.
your dealer just does not want to deal with it because there is a lot of liability involved and tow package installations are notorious for repeat returns and generally are a pain to deal with.

“Tow package” is really a ‘merikun car term.
on a Mercedes all you do is add the hitch and a wiring harness.
the rest of the vehicle is “heavy duty” enough to tow according to Mercedes specs.
no larger radiators, no oil coolers, no anti sway bars, no nothing extra is required.
a refreshing way to do business imho. Not nickel and dining like ‘merikun vehicles.
