Winter Cars?

So, I know alot of you guys double up the W213 as winter riders as well, I plan on doing the same thing, ordering a set of forged wheels with good winter tires, but also planning on getting a SUV/winter vehicle in addition. With that said, for all you garaging the E63 through winter, what is your winter rides? i

I am on the fence right now between a X5M (which is very nicely priced), or going ***** out and getting a RR SVR (just had a 17 RR sport break down on me with 6600 miles, so not much confidence). What would you opt for between these two? Is there any other ride I am missing out on looking at? I plan on leasing the SUV to get the full write off, and at SVR territory, It could open up alot more options.

Same as BC-2, Jeep Wrangler Rubcon and also have F-250 with 4WD.

While I grew up in Nebraska and am comfortable driving in the snow, it isn't much of a problem in San Diego That said, I did take the jeep up the Nate Harrison grade of Palomar mountain in 4 to 8 inches of snow the first full day I had it . . .

Drove the E63S with the Pirelli tires in a few inches of snow during my European Delivery trip. Did OK, but I was being very cautious not to biff my brand new baby.

Honestly, even with winter tires I'd be reluctant to drive the E63 in real snow mainly because I've seen too many idiots out there and I'd be afraid that someone else would run into me.

yea not sure those cars (X5M) would do well ein snow... they will surely come with perf tires.. vs just putting winters on the E63? What about like a GLE43 w/all seasons? if you want some perf with some offroad/snow work

Don’t have a W213 -yet- but we put snow tires on all our rides up here in Minnesota.

Just got my wheel/tire set ready for winter with the Beast!

I will most likely be driving my E63 amg S in the winter, delivery for me will be around January or February. But if it gets really crazy out here I still have another year left on my lease on my GLS550. Personally between the two options you said I would go with the RR if you are going to lease it.

Sorry but why on earth would you think an E63 4matic is not a good enough winter car?! I drive my C63 507, with 507 HP to the rear all year round in Canada.

I never said it wasn't a good enough winter car, I just don't intend on subjecting my 19 to north east winter roads and weather if I don't have to. My W212 has SottoZero II's and was trekking fine in blizzard conditions. I just want a SUV (preferably a lease) that I don't have to worry about body wise and has more ground clearance than a E63.

The GLS and G wagon's are probably the only thing that appeal to me out of the current lineup SUV wise. I am trying to get a little more variety though outside of MB. I got some prices on the SVR and the lease just doesn't make sense MF/Residual wise. I'd have to do a outright purchase and given Land Rover's track record with maintenance/mechanical issues I'd rather not. Back to the drawing board I guess.

This actually just popped into my head today after racking my brain on SUVs. I am not seeing any dealer stock on the 19 Cayenne Turbos, but these do look juicy! I am not sure they have been released or not yet though is the problem, and as of Monday I am in a rental car

My winter vehicle is the E63s

Why put the perfect winter car in the garage during the winter?
I'm using the factory 19" winter wheels with Nokian Hakkapeliitta studded tires (255/40-19)

I wish they allowed studded tires in Minnesota. Just got my Nokian’s Studless Hakkapellitas -or however it’s spelled- mounted on the truck!

didnt all the salt and other winter mess cause any cosmetic damage? Im from Toronto too and debating if I should drive my C63 S Coupe in the winter or buy a winter beater for the same money id spend on tires and rims for the amg

AS long you have proper winter tires, you are good to go (well, to about 20cm or so , any more snow ... then your drive will become more fun and challenging)

besides, gta main roads get to be cleared up fairly fast

Absolutely zero issues

it got me where I needed going.. or coming. I generally keep my cars pretty clean in the winter. The only exception is when it gets far too cold for far too long then depending they get a shampoo and parked indoors to dry otherwise they get washed when they get washed which is usually about once a week or so all winter long...

here she is wearing her winter shoes a couple years ago...
