So, I tried looking through the forum but can't find any current info on what Winter Tires are good for the 20" rims on the AMG E 63 S wagon ( that are currently available )

I've had 20's on other cars on past with snow tires and they work great! ( rover, Porcsche Macan S , et) .. I would rather stay on 20's if possible,

for me, conti winter tires would be my pick, then Nokian. The others ... not really worth, esp. Pirelli.

btw, I have conti 850P (19") now.

I went with Pirelli Sottozero 3
- 255/35/20
- 285/30/20

Pirellis get a bad review because of the 2’s, but the 3’s have a more aggressive tread pattern. My tuner and I agreed this is the way to go. I live where it’s winter like 6 months of the year lol and this is my daily, so I’ll let you know if it’s a thumbs up or down!

I agree. I had Sottozero 3s on my C450 and I live in Cleveland. On my side of town we get 100"+ every year, the Sottozeros performed great in snow and slush and temperatures between -5 and 40 F.

with aftermarket wheels or with stock wheels?

I have a set of winter Pirelli in the same size from my previous gtr and thought to use them on stock AMG's wheels )

I have them on my stock wheels. There’s just a small difference but because the Pirellis have a wide “lip” it doesn’t show much. I was also thinking of driving with the front raised when the snow is deep...not sure if others agree?

Nice, now I don't have doubts and will use stock rims with those Pirellis. Thank you!

On the smaller ( 255 vs 265) can you tell any difference in the drive and/or performance .. I think that is about 1/2" narrower than stock?

I personally can’t tell any difference. I punched it a few times yesterday (I know I shouldn’t as it’s still 15C over here but I can’t help it lol). The Pirelli is a better performance tire over the others IMO. I know I was made fun of by some troll on this in the past. It is winter after all.

Question, I’m a total novice at winter tyres and tyres in general! Would Michelin CrossClimate 245/45 R20 fit my E63 Wagon?

No. That tire does not come in 20”. It’s classified as “all weather” tire, meaning, 1 step up above all season and/or 1 step below dedicated winter tire. For our car, I recommend to get dedicated winter to get optimal traction

Your option of tires for 20” have already been mentioned from above.
